Centerville’s Quest for Pickleball Courts: A Tangle of Costs and Uncertainties
Centerville is keen on establishing pickleball courts for its residents. After deciding on Community Park as the location, initial budget estimates of $500,000 have surged due to rising construction costs and specific court requirements. Two concept plans by G. Brown Design have put the costs between $1,508,600 and $1,935,684. Additionally, site challenges like filling the park's basin, rerouting a water main, and potential alterations by UDOT for a nearby road expansion add complications. These challenges sparked debate within the council about the project's feasibility and potential impact on green spaces. On a brighter note, Centerville is negotiating to raise a grant from the Land & Water Conservation Fund from $400,000 to $700,000 to help with the increased costs. The city has several financial options, and despite the obstacles, they are actively seeking solutions to make the pickleball court dream a reality.
A Day to Remember: The "Ring of Fire" Eclipse Attracts Enthusiasts
This past Saturday was a delightful day for Utah, as the state reveled in the mesmerizing view of the "ring of fire" eclipse. While in some places like the Bountiful Area, cheeky clouds played a bit of hide and seek, they couldn't dampen the spirits of the enthusiasts who managed to catch glimpses of the spectacle whenever the skies cleared.
Given that the next similar occurrence in Utah is anticipated only in 2045, it's no wonder areas across central and southern Utah, including its iconic National Parks, saw an influx of visitors.
About an hour into this astronomical marvel, onlookers were treated to the sun transforming into a magnificent ring of fire. Amidst the breathtaking scenery of Utah, this was truly a moment to cherish.
For those bitten by the eclipse bug and looking forward to the next celestial display, you might want to mark your calendars for next April. A total eclipse is set to grace some parts of the southern and eastern United States.

Week 10 High School Football Roundup: The Finale Before Playoffs
Hello football fans! We're here to keep you in the loop about all the thrills and spills of the final week of high school football games across the state. The excitement of Week 10 is stretched from Wednesday to Friday, so make sure you swing by daily to get the freshest updates on how the regular season concludes.
Now, because we're feeling a little extra this week, we're spotlighting not one, but TWO games of the week. Let's dive into these matchups!
Wednesday Night Lights - Brighton vs. West: The Region 6 title is up for grabs, and boy, isn't it heating up? Brighton is heading over to West for the climax of the regular season. West currently leads the region with an impressive 5-0 streak, but Brighton, with its solid 7-2 record, is ready to give it their all to prevent West from celebrating just yet. The Bengals from Brighton are known for their strong defense, especially in region matches. While West, after a rocky start to the season, has proven to be quite the powerhouse, especially on their home turf. Who will take the region trophy? Only time will tell!
Thursday's Must-Watch - Syracuse vs. Davis: Everyone had their eyes on Syracuse at the season's outset, pegging them as the likely region winners. And they almost lived up to the hype until a startling loss to Weber in Week 7. But now, they're gearing up to face an unbeaten Davis team in regional matches. Davis, despite some surprises, has held its ground throughout the season. Both teams are closely matched in terms of points, but Syracuse has an edge with its remarkable defense. Will Davis be able to navigate through it and claim the region title on their home turf? It's a match we can't wait to watch!
Other Noteworthy Games of the Week:
- Wednesday: East concluded their regular season in style, defeating Highland 25-7.
- Wednesday: Orem showed their dominance over Ridgeline, ending the game with a 59-14 victory.
- Wednesday: Crimson Cliffs secured their region title with a decisive 56-14 triumph over Dixie.
- Thursday: Bountiful's sensational 67-yard pass was a highlight in their 24-17 win against Woods Cross.
- Friday: Lehi and Pleasant Grove gave fans a real treat, with Lehi eventually emerging victorious in a 35-28 showdown.
- Friday: In an edge-of-the-seat match, American Fork narrowly defeated Skyridge in overtime, ensuring their Region 3 title.
Stay tuned, folks! As playoffs approach, the excitement is only going to get bigger and better!
