Tragic Plane Incident in Centerville: Remembering Donald Nathan Higgs
In a heart-wrenching incident in Centerville, a single-engine plane met with an accident just to the west of Legacy Parkway this past Tuesday. The tight-knit community mourns the loss of Donald Nathan Higgs, a 43-year-old passionate pilot from Plain City, Utah.
On that fateful morning, around 11:30 a.m., residents near Legacy Parkway and 1400 North witnessed the distressing sight of the small plane's descent. Promptly, emergency teams converged on a field east of Legacy Parkway in Davis County to offer assistance.
Sadly, upon reaching the crash site, it was clear that the pilot had not survived. The Centerville Police Department, with heavy hearts, is currently in the process of reaching out to Donald's family to share the tragic news. Our thoughts go out to his loved ones during this challenging time.

⚽BYU Women's Soccer Triumphs in
Big 12 Showdown
In a thrilling evening at South Field, Provo, the BYU women's soccer team marked a memorable victory against Kansas State in their Big 12 league home match. The radiant smiles of the Cougars told the story as they reveled in their 2-0 win.
Allie Fryer and Kendell Petersen, the night's stars, both found the net in the second half, while the combined efforts of goalkeepers Savanna Mason and Lynette Hernaez ensured K-State's shots remained fruitless. The roaring support of nearly 5,000 fans only intensified the electric ambience.
Although BYU's aggressive approach produced 23 shots in the first half, their goals were reserved for the latter part. Fryer's magic moment came in the 76th minute, courtesy of a splendid assist from Brecken Mozingo. Not to be outdone, Petersen, who had faced her share of challenges, netted a stunning goal just seven minutes later, driving home the message, "Two is always better than one."
Despite Kansas State's historical prowess, the night belonged to BYU. The victory not only showcased the team's skill and tenacity but also bolstered their position in the Big 12 standings, setting them in third place. With the tournament approaching, the Cougars are poised and ready, with eyes set on their next clash against UCF.
The journey of the BYU women's soccer team this season has been nothing short of inspiring. As they forge ahead, more moments of celebration await on the horizon.

Way to go Gabe! 🏃♂️
A Rising Star in Boys Cross Country
As the cross country season advances, all eyes are on Viewmont's spirited senior, Gabe Hooper. With his stellar track record, he's on track to secure yet another top 10 position at the state level, and we're all rooting for him to aim even higher!
Recently, at the Region 5 championships held at Layton Commons, Gabe dazzled everyone by clinching the coveted Region 5 title. He raced ahead, leaving the competition behind by a solid 18 seconds, and clocked an impressive time of 14:52.9. Such determination and prowess are not new for Gabe; he's consistently showcased his mettle.
It's noteworthy that Gabe isn't just any athlete. Those familiar with him, including Viewmont's coach (and Gabe's father), Trent Hooper, admire Gabe's diligence, consistency, and bravery on the track. He's known to meticulously plan and achieve his goals, making him a standout runner. This passionate approach to his sport has led to some significant leaps in his performance.
Rewinding a bit, Gabe had an impressive run at the 5A state cross country meet last year, where he secured the seventh position with a commendable time of 15:19.7. As the current season unfolds, there's a lot of anticipation around what Gabe will achieve next. Given his past performances and dedication, the future looks bright, and we can't wait to cheer him on at the state level and beyond!
