Memorial Service for Sophie

The Centerville Police Department will be holding a memorial service for K9 Sophie this Wednesday 10/25 at 11:00 am. She’ll be buried on the south side of city hall. All are welcome to attend and light refreshments will be provided.

Bountiful Resident Pleads Guilty to Exploitation and Other Offenses

A Bountiful resident, Michael Joe Ricks, aged 51, has pleaded guilty to exploiting two women by manipulating them into prostitution. He confessed to two counts of exploitation of prostitution, two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, and aiding in prostitution. Although initially facing 15 charges, most were dropped after a plea agreement. Ricks targeted women in the commercial sex scene and often supplied them with drugs like heroin, MDMA, and marijuana. He managed activities like providing locations for prostitution and taking a percentage of the women's earnings. While Ricks hadn't worked in over a decade, he owned property, misleading his wife into believing he managed Airbnb properties. The case unfolded when a victim reported him, revealing connections to 26 commercial sex workers, with 13 identified as victims. Additionally, Ricks pled guilty to witness tampering and violating a protective order. His sentencing is set for Jan. 5, 2024. In a related case, Patrick Kevin Driscoll, formerly of Salt Lake City's IT department, faces charges of aiding Ricks, with his trial set for Oct. 24.

Exciting Times Ahead: 2000 West Expansion on the Horizon with a 2025 Finish Line!

Hey there, Davis County Communities! If you've been around the 2000 West and 300 North intersection lately, you might've noticed some action kicking off. That's right - the much-anticipated 2000 West widening project has officially begun!

As Davis County has grown and blossomed, so too have our traffic demands. To make our drives smoother and more efficient, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has embarked on expanding 2000 West. Soon, we'll see an extra northbound and southbound travel lane making our journeys quicker. And that's not all; the team is also weaving in a brand-new multi-use path, full-width shoulders, and improved sidewalks. It's all about enhancing safety, accessibility, and promoting the joys of active transportation.

A little heads-up for our amazing motorists - as the construction chugs along, you might come across some changes on the road, like shifted traffic patterns, narrower lanes, or the occasional lane closure. Some nighttime work might also be on the cards. But hey, it's all for a great cause! So, maybe factor in a tad more time when driving through this stretch.

Wondering about the reach of this project? It spans 2000 West from 300 North in West Point all the way to 1800 North in Clinton. With an investment of about $78.1 million, we're setting our sights on a grand finish by the end of 2025.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work to make our roads better for everyone. Here's to smoother rides and brighter days ahead! 🚗🛣️🌟

Centerville's 2023 Municipal Election: Candidates Directly Appointed

In an interesting development for Centerville's 2023 Municipal Election, City Recorder Jennifer Robison has announced that there won't be a traditional voting process this year. The reason? There are no contested races or propositions up for decision.

With this update, we're pleased to recognize Brian M. Plummer, Robyn Thompson Mecham, and Cheylynn Hayman, who are now officially serving Centerville. Given the circumstances, our Centerville has decided on the direct appointment of these dedicated individuals. Here's to a productive year ahead for Centerville!
