The Bountiful Davis Art Center

⭐Nominated by a community member for its outstanding contributions, we’d like to shine the spotlight on The Bountiful Davis Art Center Today!
The Bountiful Davis Art Center stands as a shining example of arts and culture at 90 North Main Street in Bountiful. Originating in the 1970s amidst Davis County's rapid development, BDAC was established through a partnership between Bountiful City and the University of Utah. After moving between various locations, it finally settled in its current location in 2015 due to Bountiful City's support.
BDAC's mission centers on immersing the local community in high-quality arts and cultural events. It offers diverse programs such as free art exhibitions, art and theater classes for all ages, Family Art Nights, and a dual-piano stage for musicians, which is unique in Davis County. A highlight of BDAC's calendar is the Summerfest: Art + Culture Celebration. Held every Monday night in June, the Bountiful Town Square becomes a hotspot of live performances, art demonstrations, family activities, food trucks, and artist booths, reflecting the diverse cultures of Utah.
While BDAC enriches the cultural landscape, it also significantly impacts the local economy. Its strategic placement on Bountiful’s Main Street drew over 40,000 visitors in 2016, boosting nearby businesses and eateries. In addition to its artistic endeavors, BDAC prioritizes the community's values by ensuring artworks align with the local ethos. This means encouraging artistic freedom while also maintaining respect for sensitive topics.
Furthermore, BDAC champions the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. It positions itself as a safe haven, promoting acceptance and celebrating diverse backgrounds. By collaborating with Utah organizations on the Compact on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, BDAC leads the way in fostering a more inclusive environment. As a nexus of art, community, and inclusiveness, the Bountiful Davis Art Center warmly invites everyone, from artists to culture enthusiasts, to partake in its offerings.

Tragic Incident on I-15 Construction Site Remembering Darren Braddley
In Farmington, a heartfelt loss was felt by the close-knit Utah transportation community when an unfortunate incident took place near I-15 on a recent Monday morning.
Darren Braddley, a dedicated 42-year-old from Gunnison, sadly lost his life while working diligently on the West Davis Highway project. The incident happened in the vicinity of Glover Lane and the southbound lanes of I-15.
According to sources, the tragedy unfolded during the disassembling of a crane. Sadly, it tipped and caused fatal injuries to Darren.
The Utah Department of Transportation shared their grief on social media, emphasizing the tight bonds within their community and expressing sorrow over the loss of a committed member of their team. The incident led to a temporary closure of two lanes on I-15, which were later reopened by midday.
As the transportation community comes together to remember and honor Darren, authorities continue to investigate the specifics of the incident. Our thoughts go out to all affected during this difficult time.

Davis Tech Students Dive into Hands-on Construction: From Classroom to Building Homes
Students from Davis Technical College had a unique learning experience where they not only learned construction hands-on but also built two homes for low-income families in Ogden. The project was initiated by the Weber Housing Authority and gave students, some still in high school, a deep insight into the construction and plumbing fields. The real-world challenges, such as working in snowstorms and managing materials in muddy conditions, provided them a comprehensive understanding of the work. Beyond traditional classroom lessons, these on-site experiences emphasized the importance and fulfillment of tangible work. Davis Technical College has previously been involved in various community projects, and this latest endeavor showcases how educational initiatives can have a positive real-world impact, benefiting both students and the community.

💞 A Heartfelt Farewell to Hogle Zoo’s Beloved Elephants After Over a Century
Salt Lake City's Hogle Zoo bids a heartfelt goodbye to its beloved elephants, Christie and Zuri, marking the end of a 107-year relationship between the city and its elephants. Christie, a 37-year-old matriarch, and her 14-year-old daughter, Zuri, have been rehomed to provide them with a larger space and the chance for Zuri to find a partner. The city's connection with elephants began in 1916 when locals bought Princess Alice, a circus elephant, establishing the city's zoo status. Over the years, the elephants have been deeply integrated into the city's history, with many living longer than average lifespans. Despite the historical bond, the decision to relocate Christie and Zuri prioritized their welfare. Their move to the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium saw a grand send-off, reflecting the profound connection the city shared with them. CEO Doug Lund reminisces about the deep void their absence creates.
