Happy Groundhog Day! Yesterday, Punxsutawney Phil made his grand appearance and—drumroll, please—he saw his shadow! That means six more weeks of winter, at least according to Phil’s age-old tradition. But let’s be honest… Utah weather plays by its own rules!

Here in Bountiful area we’re seeing mild temps and cloudy skies, so maybe Phil’s prediction won’t hit us too hard. Either way, it’s a great excuse to squeeze in a few more ski days or cozy up with some hot cocoa.

Some Utah ski resorts have even done fun Groundhog Day events in the past—like treasure hunts on the slopes—so if winter’s sticking around, might as well make the most of it!

North Salt Lake Gathers Public Input for Hatch Park Revamp

NORTH SALT LAKE – The City of North Salt Lake is gathering public feedback on proposed updates to Hatch Park following a well-attended open house last week. The event showcased potential redesign plans aimed at improving park amenities and accessibility.

Residents who were unable to attend still have a chance to participate in the planning process. The city has made the design proposals available online and is encouraging community members to review the plans and submit feedback through an online comment form.

City officials emphasize the importance of public input in shaping the final design, ensuring the park meets the needs of residents. Those interested can access the proposed designs and share their thoughts by visiting the city’s website.

Bountiful High Claims 22nd Drill Championship, Viewmont Secures Second Place

It was a day of celebration for Bountiful as two local high schools dominated the 5A state drill team competition, finishing first and second in the final standings. Bountiful High's Mandonelles reclaimed the state title—their 22nd overall—while Viewmont High secured the runner-up spot in an impressive showing for the local drill scene.

Held at Utah Valley University, the competition featured top teams from across the state, but Bountiful stood out with a powerful performance that secured their first championship since 2019. Their precise, dynamic routines and flawless execution propelled them to the top of the rankings. Viewmont, another strong contender, showcased its own talent, proving the city's deep-rooted excellence in drill and dance.

Adding to the excitement, Bountiful resident and former Bountiful High coach Jan Whittaker was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the event. 🏀 Girls Basketball: Bountiful Remains Unbeaten, Davis and Viewmont Pick Up Key Wins

Bountiful continued its undefeated run in Region 5 with dominant wins over Woods Cross and Box Elder. Davis secured two important victories against Farmington and Weber, moving up in the Region 1 standings. Viewmont split its matchups, dropping a close one to Clearfield before bouncing back against Roy. Woods Cross recovered from a tough loss to Bountiful with a win over Bonneville, while Farmington struggled in two defeats.
