Backpack Theft and Assault at Elementary School Spurs Community Response
Residents in the community are expressing deep concern over a troubling incident involving a student from Woods Cross Elementary. A post in a local Facebook group sparked conversation after it was revealed that a young child had been the victim of physical assault and theft during school hours.
According to the post, the child was not only physically assaultedβslapped and shoved by peersβbut also had their backpack stolen. While the exact number of Bountiful students attending Woods Cross Elementary is unclear, this incident has reverberated across the community, sparking a wider conversation about bullying and how parents should address these issues with their children.
The person who shared the post urged parents to have meaningful conversations with their kids about empathy and respect, encouraging them to discourage this type of behavior. The message emphasized that disliking someone does not justify mistreating them, and it called on both students and adults to take responsibility when they witness such situations.
In addition, a plea was made for anyone who finds the missing backpack to return it to either the police or the elementary school so the child can have their belongings restored. This appeal further highlighted the need for communal action to protect vulnerable children.
The call to action has resonated deeply, with many parents and community members expressing their support for creating a safer environment for all students. This incident has served as a sobering reminder of the importance of kindness and personal responsibility in addressing school bullying.
π₯ π Brush Fire Near "B" Contained After Weekend Blaze
A brush fire broke out over the weekend in the area above the "B" landmark, leading to a temporary closure of Ward Canyon Road. Thanks to quick action by initial response crews, the fire was contained to just an acre and a half. Firefighters were able to halt its spread before it grew larger, ensuring no further threat to the area.
Following the containment, the incident has now been handed over to the Forestry Fire and State Lands department. The original crews from the South Davis Metro Fire (SDMF) have been released from the scene. However, both state and federal resources will remain in the area, focusing on monitoring the perimeter and extinguishing any remaining hot spots to ensure the fire is fully under control.

Prison Book Club Encourages Reflection and Growth Among Utah Inmates
For the past five years, Elliot Morris has been running a book club at Utah State Prison, part of the Utah Prison Education Program. The club allows inmates to explore literature and foster meaningful discussions. Participation has grown to 14 inmates, with books focused on Utah authors this semester. Inmates describe the club as a lifeline, providing mental stimulation and community. Books are donated, and some authors even visit the prison to discuss their works. This initiative supports rehabilitation and personal growth.

Medicare Monday: Meet Our New Expert,
Matthew Jorgenson!

Hello, Bountiful Buzz readers!
Iβm Matthew Jorgenson, and Iβve proudly called Bountiful home since 1980, when my family moved here while I was just two years old. With 19 years of experience as a Medicare insurance agent, Iβm excited to join the Bountiful Buzz as your go-to source for Medicare expert tips.
Annual Enrollment is upon us, running from October 15th through December 7th. This is a crucial time for those already enrolled in Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans to review and make changes, as these plans adjust every year. Itβs essential to stay informed.
I also want to clear up a common misunderstanding for those approaching Medicare eligibility. Annual Enrollment does not apply to individuals nearing 65. Instead, your Medicare Initial Enrollment period spans from three months before your 65th birthday, your birth month, and three months after. For example, if you were born in January, your initial enrollment window runs from October 1 through April 30.
If you have any questions about your Medicare situation or the changes happening this year, feel free to reach out to me directly. Iβm here to help!
