Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today we pause to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose message of service, equality, and compassion continues to shape our communities. His words remind us that real change begins with kindness, understanding, and the courage to stand up for what’s right — values that still matter just as much today.

Local Tidbit 📚 - All Davis County Library locations will be closed on Monday, January 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will reopen Tuesday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m.

Farmington Man Sentenced to Jail for Stalking Salt Lake City Mayor

A Farmington man has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for stalking Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall.

Jason Guy Rogers, 45, began serving his sentence immediately following a court hearing this week. In addition to jail time, he is barred from contacting the mayor or her family and from entering any location associated with her, including the Salt Lake City-County Building.

Rogers pleaded guilty last month to stalking, a class A misdemeanor. The case began in May 2025, when he showed up at the City-County Building shortly after posting threatening messages online targeting Mendenhall and her family. The posts were linked to his anger over new city flags celebrating LGBTQ and Juneteenth causes.

Although Rogers initially claimed his account was hacked, he later admitted to knowingly engaging in behavior that would cause fear for someone’s safety.

Bountiful Library Bids Farewell Ahead of Major Renovation

The Bountiful Branch of the Davis County Library will close later this month for an 18-month renovation, and the community is invited to a farewell event on Saturday, January 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library.

Themed “Blast from the Past,” the celebration marks the end of an era for the Main Street location, which has served generations of residents. During renovations, a temporary library will open nearby next month, with more details to come.

The upgrade aims to modernize the space while preserving the library’s role as a vital part of the community.

🏀 Farmington Falls to Layton in Region 1 Matchup

Farmington High Boys Basketball Team came up short in a tough Region 1 contest against Layton, falling 72-61 on the road. Despite a strong effort, the Phoenix couldn’t overcome a hot start from the Lancers, who jumped out to a 24-17 lead in the first quarter and maintained control throughout.

Isaac Anderson led the way for Farmington with 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, keeping the team within striking distance. However, Layton’s offense proved difficult to contain, with Karter Miller delivering a dominant 36-point performance, highlighted by seven shots from beyond the arc.

Farmington will look to bounce back in their next matchup as region play continues.

Viewmont Wins Region Title, Bountiful Takes Second in Drill Team Showdown

Local High Schools are celebrating standout performances from drill teams following a successful showing at the regional championships. The Viewmont High Vykelles took home the region title, earning first place, while the Bountiful High Mandonelles secured second and will also advance to the state competition.

The event highlighted more than just talent—it showcased camaraderie and sportsmanship, as teams cheered one another on, with a particularly memorable moment when several athletes rushed to congratulate the Vykelles on their win.

City leaders praised the athletes not only for their skill and unity, but also for the positive spirit on display. With both teams heading to state, Bountiful has plenty to be proud of—and plenty to cheer for in the weeks ahead. Way to go Girls!
