It’s Family Connection Week in Utah!

This week, we’re joining families across Utah in hitting pause on screens and saying yes to more face-to-face time. From June 9–15, the goal is simple: make small moments count—whether it’s sharing a meal, taking a walk, or playing a game.
We’ll be featuring a little idea each day this week to inspire you to connect with the people who matter most. Ready to create some meaningful memories? Let’s go!

🌟 Monday – Start with a Meal

“Family dinners, screen-free!” Kick off the week by sharing a simple, unplugged meal together. Turn off TVs and phones, and talk about highs (and maybe even one funny moment) from the weekend. Utah youth who eat just one family meal a week are 45 % less likely to feel depressed—and it’s a great way to begin stronger family connections

New Dog Daycare "Barks and Recreation" Set to Open in Woods Cross

Woods Cross pet owners have a new option for keeping their dogs happy and active this summer. A new business, Barks and Recreation, is set to open its doors in a brand-new facility on July 1.

Ahead of the official launch, the daycare is already welcoming dogs at its temporary location in the old dog park building throughout June. Owner Katrina Schussler invites local pet lovers to visit and take advantage of a free day of daycare, giving their furry companions a chance to play and socialize in a safe environment.

Barks and Recreation aims to become a trusted destination for pet owners in Woods Cross, offering high-quality care and a welcoming space for dogs of all sizes. More information is available at happydogsbark.com, and pet owners can follow the business’s journey on Instagram at @barksandrecreationutah.

From Dragons to Butterflies: Chalk Art Festival Draws a Crowd in Bountiful

Bountiful’s Main Street is awash with color as the Chalk Art Festival transforms the sidewalks into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Running from June 4–7, the event features artists of all ages, from first-time chalk users to seasoned creatives, crafting everything from stained-glass butterflies to fantastical dragons. Originally founded by Jane Joy to inspire local youth, the festival has grown into a beloved community tradition, now strategically scheduled in June to avoid rain. This year’s theme, Magic on the Sidewalk, continues to enchant residents and visitors alike.

Rising Summer Heat Renews Warnings About Leaving Children in Hot Cars

With summer temperatures on the rise, experts are warning about the life-threatening danger of leaving children in hot cars. Inside temperatures can spike dramatically, leading to heatstroke in minutes. On average, 37 children in the U.S. die each year from heat-related incidents in vehicles. Authorities advise always checking the back seat, locking unattended cars, and using technological reminders to prevent these tragic accidents.

Mothers and Children Rescued from Rapid West Haven Park Blaze

A fast-moving grass fire at West Haven’s Prevedel Park trapped two mothers and their children Friday evening, forcing a dramatic evacuation. The fire, which began near a campfire, quickly spread due to dry conditions and flammable debris. The trapped families were rescued by firefighters after flames blocked their path. The blaze was contained to five acres with no injuries reported. Authorities have closed the park indefinitely while the cause of the fire is under investigation.
