Bountiful Mayor’s Chalk Art Sparks Local Restaurant Love

Mayor Kendalyn Harris joined in the fun at this year’s Bountiful Main Street Chalk Art Festival, and her colorful entry came with a community message: Support your local restaurants!

Her square, aptly titled “Mayor’s Square”, featured a vibrant collage of more than 25 local restaurant names drawn in bold chalk lettering. From beloved favorites like Plates & Palates, Blacksmith Ice Cream Co., Royal India, and Sweet Cake Bake Shop, to newer spots like MakMak Thai and Veto’s, the display reminded festival-goers that Bountiful offers a diverse and delicious dining scene.

“My chalk art entry is a reminder that although we are working to get more, we do have lots of excellent places to eat in Bountiful,” Mayor Harris posted. “Thanks for supporting local restaurants!”

It’s a timely message as Main Street and the surrounding area continue to evolve with new businesses and revitalization efforts. The mayor’s cheerful square encouraged residents and visitors alike to think local the next time they dine out.

Volunteers Urgently Needed to Support Davis County’s Meals on Wheels Program

Davis County faces an alarming malnutrition rate among older adults, prompting the continued efforts of the Meals on Wheels program, now in its 50th year. The initiative delivers about 350 meals daily to homebound seniors, with the support of volunteers who also provide valuable social interaction. Currently, the program needs 30 additional volunteers, particularly in the Clearfield area. Rising food costs and an aging population are increasing demand for the service. Community members aged 18 and older are encouraged to get involved and help improve the well-being of local seniors.

Gov. Spencer Cox is encouraging Utahns to participate in Family Connection Week, starting June 9, by reducing screen time and focusing on quality in-person interactions. The initiative caps off Family Strengthening Month and highlights the importance of shared activities like meals and games. Research shows that family time can significantly improve mental health, while excessive screen use can harm relationships. Families are urged to "disconnect to reconnect," with resources and activity suggestions available through the Utah Department of Health and Human Services.
