💲Google's Generous Contribution to Utah
4-H: Elevating Computer Science Education
Google.org the philanthropic arm of Google, has granted $80,000 to Utah 4-H to expand computer science education. Announced at a coding event for middle school students, this funding will enhance the scope of computer science resources, especially in rural areas. Utah is leading in developing a new 4-H computer science curriculum, supported by Utah State University. This curriculum, part of the CLOVER e-learning platform, covers various topics including STEM and career readiness. The grant will help introduce activities ranging from basic computing to augmented reality. Despite high demand for computer science skills, enrollment in these courses is low in Utah. Google.org's contribution, part of a larger $5 million donation to the National 4-H Council, aims to bridge this gap and provide more students with future-ready skills. Google's support reflects its commitment to making computer science education accessible to diverse student backgrounds.
👐 Community Rallies to Aid Family of Nine After Devastating Fire in Bountiful Home
A family of nine in Bountiful, including a newborn, received overwhelming community support after their home was severely damaged by a fire. The fire, believed to have started in the fireplace, took nearly two hours for the South Davis Metro Fire crew to control. Neighbors, led by Andrew Eberhardt, rallied to provide essentials like clothing and shelter, with one neighbor offering their home to the family. Donations are being accepted through Venmo to assist the family @Hollie-Wardle.
⚠️ Navigating Online Shopping Safely: Beware of Black Friday Scams Involving Popular Brands
With Black Friday approaching, there's a significant increase in online scams, with thousands of fraudulent URLs already identified. Scammers are impersonating well-known brands or creating fake ones to deceive shoppers into revealing sensitive information. The risk extends to phishing scams, where emails or texts from seemingly reputable sources like Walmart or Australia Post are actually bait for data theft. Shoppers are urged to be extra cautious: always double-check the authenticity of websites and sender details, and be skeptical of unsolicited communications, especially those containing links or requests for personal information. If you suspect your data has been compromised, act swiftly to secure your accounts and monitor financial transactions. Staying alert and informed is crucial for a safe online shopping experience this Black Friday.

Foxboro Elementary's 5th Graders Lead the Way in Restoring Playground Map
Foxboro Elementary's 5th graders, guided by teacher James Tomsik and principal Jake Heidrich, noticed the fading map of the United States on their playground and took initiative to restore it. They wrote persuasive letters to superintendent Dr. Dan Linford, who praised their proactive leadership. This project exemplifies the importance of youth engagement and responsibility in community improvements. The students' actions highlight the power everyone has to positively impact their community.

⚽ Exciting Rematch: BYU Women's Soccer Faces Utah State in NCAA Tournament Opener
The BYU women's soccer team, ranked No. 6 and with a No. 1 seed, is set to host Utah State in the NCAA Tournament opener on Friday. This game is a rematch, as Utah State handed BYU their only regular-season loss. BYU's strong record includes 24 NCAA Tournament appearances in 29 seasons, reaching the College Cup finals once. Utah State, under coach Manny Martins, returns to the tournament after last participating in 2011 and 2012. The match promises excitement with BYU's impressive offensive record and Utah State's seven-game winning streak. The winner moves on in the tournament, with later stages in Cary, North Carolina.

🏀 Alissa Pili's 26 Points Lead No. 5 Utah to Dominant 104-45 Win Over Mississippi Valley St
In the season opener at the Huntsman Center, No. 5 ranked Utah women's basketball team overcame a strong start from Mississippi Valley State to win 104-45. Despite Mississippi Valley State's initial 69% shooting accuracy and early lead, Utah, under Coach Lynne Roberts, went on a 24-0 run in the second quarter to take control of the game. Alissa Pili, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, scored 26 points before leaving with an eye injury. Other key contributors included Gianna Kneepkens and Isabel Palmer. The game was marked by tactical adjustments and contributions from various players, reflecting a strong team effort. Utah's next game is at home against South Carolina State.
