Volunteers Needed to Help Clear Overgrown Holbrook Canyon Trail

Bountiful, Utah’s Holbrook Canyon Trail, a scenic route nestled in the foothills, is seeing a surge of community support. Known for its connection to the expansive Great Western Trail, Holbrook Canyon is popular among local hikers, though many rarely venture far beyond the initial miles. As a result, the upper section of the trail often becomes overgrown and less maintained.

This year, dedicated volunteers have already cleared 1.8 miles past the pipeline junction, significantly improving the trail's accessibility. Now, a group of passionate trail supporters—often referred to as “trail angels”—are working to extend the maintenance efforts all the way to the top. They are calling on local outdoor enthusiasts to join their efforts.

A trail maintenance opportunity is scheduled for June 23 at 6 a.m., and additional help is welcomed at other times for those who can’t attend that morning. Volunteers are encouraged to get involved to ensure the full beauty of Holbrook Canyon remains accessible for everyone.

Free Apricots! Local Farm Invites Community to Pick Their Own

Locals have a sweet summer treat waiting for them—Chas W. Bangerter & Son is inviting the community to pick fresh apricots straight from the tree, completely free of charge. The farm, located at 1304 N 400 E in Bountiful is welcoming visitors to bring their own containers and harvest as much fruit as they’d like.

This generous offering not only helps ensure the apricots don’t go to waste but also fosters a sense of community and supports local agriculture. Residents are encouraged to spread the word to friends and family to enjoy the seasonal bounty together.

Whether you're planning to make jam, pies, or just enjoy some fresh fruit, this is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a taste of summer while supporting a long-standing local farm.

Utah Treasure Hunt Heats Up with New Clues for $25,000 Prize

The search continues for Utah’s elusive $25,000 treasure, now in its second week with no confirmed discoveries. Since the hunt kicked off, adventurers have been combing the Wasatch Front in hopes of uncovering the hidden chest—tucked somewhere just off a trail.

Organizers David Cline and John Maxim released a fresh batch of clues last Friday to guide treasure seekers further in their quest. The first new hint reaffirms the geographic boundaries of the hunt: the treasure lies between Ogden and Payson and stretches from Tooele to Park City—always along the Wasatch Front.

For those deciphering the initial poem provided at the hunt’s launch, a second clue aims to clear up confusion. The word “pharaoh” in the poem is not a metaphor, but a reference to a natural landmark—something visible and identifiable from the correct trail.

A third tip offers more practical insight: once treasure hunters locate the right trail, they should know the chest is roughly 30 to 50 feet off the path, or about “29 paces,” as estimated by Maxim.

Organizers have emphasized a few key rules: the treasure is not hidden on private property, nor within a state or national park. It also isn’t at any ski resort, and there’s no need to purchase anything to participate or solve the poem.

Cline and Maxim continue to encourage safety and respect for the environment as the hunt unfolds. With more clues likely on the way, the race is on to uncover the $25,000 prize.
