🚨Home Depot Parking Lot Scene of Intense Carjacking Incident

A dramatic attempted carjacking incident unfolded at a the SLC Home Depot parking lot, leading to the arrest of 36-year-old Kay Elder. The event occurred on January 3, 2024, when Elder aggressively approached a 57-year-old individual parked at the store. Elder forcefully opened the driver's side door and demanded the car keys while shouting at the victim to exit the vehicle. The victim complied but Elder's attempt to strike and kick the individual was unsuccessful. The confrontation escalated as Elder grabbed the victim and threw them against a tree, causing them to fall to the ground. Elder then attempted to flee in the victim's car, but was thwarted as the victim retained the car key FOB, preventing the car from starting.

Witnesses to the incident promptly alerted the authorities. Police arrived to find Elder trying to escape into oncoming traffic. Despite repeated commands to halt, Elder persisted in fleeing and even threw a metal sign at the officers in pursuit. The situation was brought under control when the officers used a taser to subdue and apprehend Elder.

Elder, facing charges of attempted carjacking, made his initial court appearance on January 22, 2024, at the Orrin G. Hatch U.S. District Courthouse in Salt Lake City. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort to curb violent crime and improve safety in communities.

Davis County's Adult Education program is set to begin its new session in mid-to-late January, offering a rich variety of classes including health and wellness topics like microgreens cultivation, sleep improvement, overcoming mental health challenges, and herbalism. The initiative aims to foster community learning and personal growth with courses available for all ages, including ACT Prep and special winter classes. Enthusiastic local experts will lead the sessions, encouraging residents to embrace lifelong learning and self-improvement.
