Stay Calm on Election Day: Tips to Reduce Voting Stress

With Election Day upon us, it’s natural for some to feel anxious about the process and outcomes. Here are some simple strategies to stay grounded, minimize stress, and make your Election Day experience as smooth as possible.

Plan Ahead for a Smoother Experience

One way to reduce stress is by planning your vote early. Double-check your polling location and schedule a time to vote that may be less busy, helping you avoid long lines and last-minute scrambling. Utah voters can find their polling place and other voting details at myvote.wi.gov.

Take Mental and Physical Breaks

Amid the Election Day buzz, taking breaks can be a powerful way to reset. Step outside for fresh air, practice breathing exercises, or listen to relaxing music. These small actions can refresh your mind and reduce tension.

Stay Informed without Overloading

While staying updated on the latest election news is essential, too much exposure can become overwhelming. Set specific times for checking in on news updates, and avoid letting constant information distract you from daily activities.

Remember, staying calm and centered will make the day more manageable. You’ve got this!

Celebrate the Season with Susie Carter’s Heartwarming Holiday Concert in West Bountiful

The West Bountiful Arts Council is wrapping up its 2024 concert series this November with a festive treat: a holiday concert by local favorite Susie Carter, titled It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. Known for her warm, engaging performances, Susie will take the audience on a musical journey through Broadway hits and seasonal classics, setting the perfect tone for the upcoming holiday season.

Susie, a West Bountiful native, grew up surrounded by music, often performing at community events and churches. Each year, her Christmastime songs at Dick’s Market become a cherished local tradition, and Susie donates all her tips from these performances to help families in need. Her deep connection to the community adds a special warmth to her concerts, making each event feel like a celebration among friends and family.

Residents are invited to join the festivities and experience Susie's touching holiday concert on Friday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m., held at the West Bountiful City Hall, located at 550 North 800 West.

Secret Tuner Keeps Salt Lake Art Piano Alive for Months

In Salt Lake City, a mysterious piano tuner kept a public art piano in tune at Abravanel Plaza, despite the instrument’s exposure to the elements. The piano, part of the Gina Bachauer Piano Foundation's "Key Changes" exhibit, was discreetly maintained by Steven Mueller, a computer chip designer who taught himself piano tuning via online resources. His efforts unexpectedly preserved the piano’s playability, extending its life for passersby to enjoy. Mueller’s motivation stemmed from a tribute to a late friend’s musical generosity, transforming this act into a community gift.

⚽️ Davis High Girls' Soccer Claims 6A Runner-Up, Bountiful Falls in Semifinals

In Utah's high school soccer playoffs, Davis High's girls' team finished as runner-up in the Class 6A championship, losing 2-0 to Lone Peak. Despite a strong season, Davis couldn’t overcome Lone Peak’s defense. Bountiful High’s team also had a notable run, ending their season with a 3-0 loss to Olympus in the Class 5A semifinals. Both teams had standout players who are expected to lead strong rosters next season, hinting at future championship potential.

🍲Recipe of the Week:
One-Pot Autumn Harvest Pasta 🌾🍁

Embrace fall with this hearty, simple
One-Pot Autumn Harvest Pasta!

It’s packed with seasonal veggies, warm flavors, and is a breeze to make (plus fewer dishes!).

📝 Ingredients:

- 12 oz pasta (penne or fusilli work well)
- 2 cups butternut squash, cubed
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 small red onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (or coconut milk for a dairy-free option)
- Salt, pepper, and thyme to taste
- Grated Parmesan for topping (optional)

🍝 Instructions:

1. In a large pot, add the pasta, butternut squash, mushrooms, onion, and garlic.
2. Pour in the vegetable broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10-12 minutes, until the pasta is cooked and the squash is tender.
3. Stir in the spinach and heavy cream, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the spinach is wilted.
4. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Serve warm and top with Parmesan if desired!

🍂 Quick Cooking Tip:
Get the Perfectly Creamy Pasta Every Time

For a luscious, creamy texture, save a bit of pasta water before draining. Stirring it back into the sauce makes the dish extra silky and helps the sauce cling to the pasta better. 🌟
