Push-In Ceremony Brings Tradition to Life at South Davis Fire Station

South Davis Metro Fire Station 81 recently introduced a new fire engine with a traditional "push-in" ceremony, reflecting a historical practice when horse-drawn engines were pushed into firehouses. The new Rosenbauer engine replaces a 2015 model, now kept in reserve. It features upgrades like a larger cabin and air scrubbers to reduce cancer risks for firefighters. The ceremony also included transferring a symbolic fire bell to the new engine, signifying its role in protecting the community.

Antelope Island Prepares for Spectacular Annual Bison Roundup

The annual Bison Roundup at Antelope Island is set for October 26, 2024. This popular event sees nearly 800 bison herded into corrals by horseback riders, aimed at managing the population and ensuring the herd's health. The day also features family-friendly activities like pony rides, crafts, and food trucks, starting at 10 a.m., with the bison arriving between noon and 3 p.m. It's a chance for spectators to witness the spectacle and learn about bison conservation efforts.

Davis County's Best Hiking Spots, From Easy Strolls to Tough Treks

Davis County offers a variety of hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Beginners can enjoy easy paths like the Jensen Park Trail and Great Salt Lake Marina Path, which feature minimal elevation and scenic views. For intermediate hikers, options such as South Deuel Creek Trail and Farmington Creek Trail provide moderate challenges with steeper climbs and rewarding landscapes. More experienced hikers can tackle difficult routes like the Adams Canyon Trail and Holbrook Canyon Trail, featuring rocky terrain and significant elevation gains.
