Fireworks Sales Begin Today—Know the Rules Before You Light Up

Fireworks sales officially begin today, running from June 24 through July 25. Additional sales periods include December 29–31 and two days before Chinese New Year's Eve.

Residents may discharge fireworks daily between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., with extended hours on July 4 and July 24 until midnight. Fireworks are also allowed from July 22–25, on New Year’s Eve from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on January 1, and on Chinese New Year’s Eve from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day.

For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, community members are reminded to follow the allowed times and handle fireworks responsibly.

BOOM! What Was That? Don’t Worry, Just the Army Blowing Stuff Up (On Purpose!)

If your windows rattled Monday and your dog dove under the couch, you weren’t imagining things. Loud booms echoed across the Wasatch Front thanks to the Tooele Army Depot doing what it does best—blowing up old, unstable munitions.

Starting around 11:30 a.m., the Depot set off 14 detonations at its south range. They warned us on social media, but let’s be honest—most of us still jumped. The last boom even took a 10-minute break before making its dramatic exit, adding to the confusion.

The noise came at a tense time, with news breaking about an attack on a U.S. base overseas. Some Utahns thought the two were related, but Depot officials quickly cleared things up: these were routine blasts that have been happening (safely!) for over 80 years.

Col. Luke R. Clover and his team want locals to know they’re not keeping secrets—they’re just getting rid of old explosives, some dating back to World War II. And yes, they know it’s loud. “We’re sorry for the scare,” said a Depot spokesperson. “We’re working on ways to reduce the surprise factor.”

Utah Father Turns Tragedy into Gun Safety Mission After Son's Accidental Death

After losing his teenage son Harley to an accidental shooting 11 years ago, Utah father Jeff Jarrett created the nonprofit "Harley's Angels" to support families impacted by gun violence. His advocacy helped pass a new Utah law mandating gun safety education in schools starting July 1. Jarrett’s personal story reflects a journey from grief and addiction to activism and outreach, offering guidance to others facing similar losses.
