๐พ Flea & Tick Cases Suddenly Spike in South Davis
Local dog owners may want to give their pups a closer look this week. According to Scenthound Bountiful, the dog wellness and grooming center has seen a sudden increase in flea and tick cases after going nearly 10 months without seeing a single case. Since last Friday alone, staff report identifying between 8 and 10 dogs with fleas or ticks.
Many pet owners assume fleas and ticks are only picked up on mountain hikes or remote trails, but experts say dogs can encounter them almost anywhereโincluding neighborhood walks, local parks, backyards, dog parks, and even through contact with other pets. Fleas can spread rapidly once they enter a home, while ticks can carry diseases that affect both animals and humans.
Scenthound recommends checking your dog's coat regularly, especially around the ears, neck, face, underarms, groin, and between the toes. Pet owners who find evidence of fleas or ticks should contact their veterinarian and begin treatment as quickly as possible to prevent the issue from spreading.
A growing number of South Davis pet owners may be dealing with fleas and ticks this summer, and catching the problem early can help prevent costly treatments and household infestations.
Local Tip: If your dog has been hiking, visiting parks, spending time in the backyard, or interacting with other pets recently, now is a good time for a quick inspection. Look for small dark insects, black specks that resemble ground pepper ("flea dirt"), or attached ticks hiding in warm areas of the body. ๐ Read Report Here
๐ฑ Davis Schools Keep Current Cellphone Rules
The Davis School District Board voted 6/2 to keep its current cellphone policy instead of adopting a full bell-to-bell ban. Elementary students will continue under a full-day restriction, while junior high and high school students may use phones during passing periods and lunch. One board member voted against the decision, favoring a stricter districtwide ban.
Families and students won't see major changes next school year, but the debate over cellphone use in schools is likely to continue. ๐ Read More
