Farmington Home Burglary Under Investigation; Suspects Still at Large

Farmington police are actively investigating a residential burglary reported on February 22 near 1400 N. and Ridgewood Rd. The suspects fled before officers arrived and remain at large. No injuries or weapons were reported. Authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activity and are requesting any security footage or information that may help with the investigation.

Information can be submitted by calling the non-emergency dispatch line at (801) 298-6000 or by emailing [email protected]. The investigation remains active, and police will provide updates as new details emerge.

Amber Alert Update: Missing 18-Month-Old and Mother Found Safe by Police

An Amber Alert issued for 18-month-old Josephina Jimenez in Salt Lake City has ended after police located her and her mother, Holly Angelina Smith. Smith allegedly fled with her daughter after a court ordered her to relinquish custody due to safety concerns. Authorities suspected family members helped Smith evade capture. Both were found safe, with further details expected.

🏀 State Tournament Highlights: Davis, Bountiful Advance While Others Fall Short

Local girls' basketball teams saw mixed results in state tournament action this week. Davis and Bountiful advanced to the quarterfinals, while Farmington, Viewmont, and Woods Cross were eliminated.

In the 6A tournament, sixth-seeded Davis edged out No. 11 Lehi 54-52, thanks to a crucial second-quarter run. Mari Nichols led the Darts with 15 points. Davis faces No. 3 Westlake in the quarterfinals on Feb. 24.

In 5A play, third-seeded Bountiful cruised past Olympus 74-25, pulling away with a dominant 25-7 third quarter. Taylor Harvey and Milika Satuala combined for 35 points. The Redhawks meet No. 22 Spanish Fork in the quarterfinals on Feb. 25.

Farmington’s season ended with a 52-29 loss to Westlake after being outscored 20-4 in the second quarter. The Phoenix finished the year 10-13.

Viewmont defeated Bonneville 50-41 in the first round but fell to Brighton 61-51 in the second. The Vikings ended their season at 16-9.

Woods Cross lost a tight 48-46 contest to Spanish Fork, wrapping up the season with a 14-10 record.

Utah Moves to End Water Fluoridation, Sparking Health Debate

Utah lawmakers have passed a bill banning the addition of fluoride to public drinking water, leaving the final decision to Gov. Spencer Cox. The legislation, driven by concerns over chemical safety and personal choice, would overturn local decisions in some communities that voted for fluoridation. Supporters argue that fluoride supplements remain accessible, while opponents, including dental professionals, warn the move could harm dental health, especially among children. The bill passed the Senate by an 18-8 vote.
