A Green Oasis on Bountiful Main Street
Bountiful Buzz is thrilled to showcase a unique gem in our community, Pistil and Thorn, nestled at 37 North on Bountiful Main Street. This charming establishment is more than just a business; it's a green haven crafted with passion and a love for community.
A Dream Turned Reality
The journey of Pistil and Thorn began with two sisters, united by their love for houseplants and a desire for a fulfilling career beyond the confines of a 9-5 desk job. Leaving behind their stressful legal careers, they embarked on a venture fueled by their shared passion. This dream transformed into a stunning plant store, offering an oasis for plant lovers and a cozy spot for coffee enthusiasts.
A Haven for Plant Lovers
Pistil and Thorn is not just a store; it's an experience. The space is thoughtfully designed to provide a unique houseplant shopping adventure. Whether you're a seasoned plant enthusiast or a newbie, the sisters are there to guide you in finding the perfect green companion for your home or as a thoughtful gift for a loved one.
More Than Plants
In the heart of the store lies Split Leaf Coffee, a quaint coffee shop that beckons visitors to relax and unwind. Open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, it's the perfect spot to savor a coffee while surrounded by lush greenery.
Celebrate With Us
Pistil and Thorn extends an invitation for private events. Be it a work gathering, birthday, or a girl’s night out, they offer an array of workshops like terrarium making, succulent arrangements, kokedama, or macrame plant hanger crafting.
A Leap of Faith
The sisters' determination saw them choosing Bountiful Main Street over bigger cities, driven by a desire to enrich their own community. Despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, they persevered, pouring their hearts and hands (alongside their family's support) into creating this beautiful space.
Future Visions
Looking ahead, Pistil and Thorn aim to foster community connections through hosting events and workshops, making it not just a shop, but a hub for plant lovers and the community alike.
Embrace the Green
We invite our readers to step into Pistil and Thorn, a place where you can find your next leafy friend, enjoy a cup of coffee, or simply immerse in a community-oriented atmosphere. Tragic Turn for Utah Snorkeler on Hawaiian Tour
An 83-year-old man from Centerville, Utah, tragically lost his life in a suspected drowning incident while snorkeling in Hawaii. The unfortunate event occurred on a Thursday morning in Kona, on the Big Island. Wayne Argyle, who was participating in a guided snorkeling tour in Kealakekua Bay, was found drifting facedown in the water by a crew member, only five minutes after entering the water.
Despite immediate attempts to assist him, including tapping him on the back and bringing him onto the boat for CPR, Argyle was unresponsive. The tour boat quickly returned to the harbor, where he was transported to the Kona Community Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Hawaii police have reported that there is no suspicion of foul play, but the cause of death is still under investigation.

Child Labor Law Oversight Costs Three Utah Cold Stone Stores $42,714
Recently, three Cold Stone Creamery stores in Utah, managed by The Sweet Place LLC, faced a significant fine of $42,714 from the U.S. Department of Labor. This fine was the consequence of violating federal child labor laws, notably involving employees between 14 to 15 years old working hours beyond what is legally allowed during school weeks. The affected locations include Ogden, Clinton, and Layton. The issue arose due to the employer's reliance on state guidelines, which were less strict than federal laws, following incorrect legal advice. This led to their unintentional non-compliance with federal regulations. The Department of Labor has highlighted the necessity for employers and employees to seek correct legal information to prevent such issues. Cold Stone Creamery has yet to respond to these findings.

A Home for Hope: Davis County Strives to Establish a Homeless Shelter
In Davis County, local officials are endeavoring to secure legislative funding for a homeless shelter, confronting a significant but often overlooked issue of homelessness in the area. Despite a common misconception among residents that homelessness isn't a prevalent problem in Davis County, recent data and observations tell a different story. The initiative is partly driven by a state mandate (HB499), requiring counties to offer a certain number of beds for homeless individuals, particularly during the winter. The county's plan focuses on long-term solutions and prevention, including a proposed facility by Davis Behavioral Health with 60 units. However, challenges remain in obtaining sufficient funds, identifying appropriate locations, and gaining legislative support for this vital project.

🏀 Bountiful and Box Elder Face Off in Pivotal 5A Girls Basketball Rivalry
In a highly anticipated rivalry game this Friday at 5:15 p.m. MST, Bountiful and Box Elder's girls basketball teams are set to clash, showcasing top talents and high stakes. Bountiful's forward, Milika Satuala, renowned as one of Utah's best players, faces a challenging environment against Box Elder. Ashlyn Wight of Box Elder is eager for redemption after a limited 11-point performance in their previous 69-46 defeat to Bountiful.
Ranked third and fourth in the 5A RPI, this matchup is pivotal for both teams. A victory for Box Elder could propel them into the top three of the RPI and significantly alter the dynamics of the Region 5 title race. On the other hand, a win for Bountiful could virtually guarantee them the region title and solidify their position as frontrunners in 5A girls basketball.
⭐Go Bountiful! 👍🏀

Young Orators Shine in MLK Speech Contest at Davis School District
In the heartwarming tradition spanning nearly two decades, the Davis School District annually celebrates the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a unique speech contest. This cherished event brings together students from various schools, encouraging them to delve into the rich tapestry of Dr. King's speeches, and present their chosen pieces to the Davis School District Board of Education.
This year, the board meeting room echoed with the powerful words of Dr. King, recited by a group of remarkable students, each leaving a lasting impression. Blithe Bigelow, a poised 11th grader from Farmington High School, chose the thought-provoking speech "Proud to be maladjusted." Her delivery captured the essence of Dr. King's call for a world that does not acquiesce to societal injustices.
Kenyon Bell, a ninth-grade student from Centennial Junior High School, selected "Our God is marching on," a speech resonating with hope and determination. His recitation was not just a reflection of his admiration for Dr. King but also a display of his own burgeoning oratory skills.
The youngest speaker, Marlie Buys, a fifth grader from Odyssey Elementary, took the stage with confidence beyond her years. Her rendition of "What is your life's blueprint?" was both moving and inspirational, prompting listeners to reflect on their own life's purpose and ambitions.
These students, through their eloquent recitations, not only paid homage to Dr. King's legacy but also demonstrated their understanding of his profound impact on society. The event serves as a reminder of the power of words and the ongoing relevance of Dr. King's message in today's world.
