Farmington Weighs Land Sale for Townhomes to Fund New Fire Station

Farmington officials are considering selling a 4-acre parcel of city-owned land for a townhome development to help fund a new fire station. The city needs the station to accommodate its growing population, but funding remains a challenge. While the proposal could provide necessary resources, concerns about traffic and long-term planning persist. A final decision is pending further discussions and public input.

Utah Skating Community Honors Young Athletes Lost in Tragic Plane Crash

The Utah figure skating community is grieving the loss of young skaters, parents, and coaches who were among the 60 people killed in a tragic plane crash near Washington, D.C., on January 29. The victims, including 28 members of the skating world, were returning home from a development camp in Wichita, Kansas, when their regional jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter.

To honor those lost, Utah skaters gathered for a memorial vigil at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, where they formed a tribute on the ice and observed a moment of silence. Many of the victims had the potential to compete in future Olympic Games, including the 2034 Winter Olympics in Utah.

The crash also took the lives of world-champion skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who were traveling with their son, Maxim. Their deaths deeply affected the Kovar family of Ogden, longtime friends and fellow figure skating coaches. Kai Kovar, 18, who had trained alongside some of the victims, is preparing to compete at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships later this month, carrying the memory of those lost.

Utah’s skating community remains committed to honoring the victims at future events, ensuring their legacy lives on.

Two Injured in Firearms-Related Incident at Davis County Home

Two people were injured in a firearms-related incident at a home in Davis County, Utah, on Sunday evening, prompting a response from local authorities. Deputies arrived at the residence around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of the incident.

Emergency responders provided medical assistance before transporting the injured individuals to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident but have not yet released further details about what led to the injuries.

Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. More information is expected as the investigation progresses.

🏀 Vikings Hold Strong in Region 5, Set Sights on Playoffs

The Viewmont boys basketball team is in the hunt for its first region title since 2012, sitting atop Region 5 with a 6-1 record at the season’s midpoint. Led by senior guard Drez Jensen, who averages 18.7 points per game, the Vikings have shown strong depth and balanced scoring. They rank No. 11 in Class 5A’s RPI standings, with key games ahead before the state playoffs begin on Feb. 19.
