Hop Into Love: Local Shelter Highlights Bunnies Available for Adoption ❤️

Animal Care of Davis County is inviting residents to consider an unconventional but heartwarming Valentine’s gift this year — a rabbit in need of a loving home. The shelter currently has six adult rabbits and five young kits available for adoption, each eager to find a permanent family.

The organization reminds potential adopters that rabbits require dedicated care and attention. A healthy diet includes unlimited hay, fresh spring mix or leafy lettuce, and carefully portioned pellets. In addition to proper nutrition, rabbits thrive with engaging enrichment activities that stimulate their naturally curious personalities.

For those not ready to make a lifelong commitment, fostering is also an option. The baby rabbits are currently in foster homes and are ready to transition into permanent placements. Shelter officials hope the community will consider opening their homes — whether temporarily or permanently — to one of these affectionate animals.

More information about available rabbits and the adoption process can be found on the Animal Care of Davis County website.

North Salt Lake Hosts Ukrainian Delegation for Exchange on Resilience and Public Service

North Salt Lake recently welcomed a delegation from Ukraine for a meaningful afternoon of connection and shared ideas. City leaders and staff talked about community engagement, city communications, and how local governments stay closely connected to the people they serve.

Visitors were especially impressed by the teamwork and pride within the city’s Public Works Department. The group also discussed resilience, including major projects like Hatch Park and the long-term recovery efforts following the 2014 landslide, with a tour of the restored hillside.

The visit wrapped up with beautiful views of the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island — a fitting reminder that strong communities are built through collaboration, service, and shared purpose.

44 Years Behind the Badge - Lt. John Herndon Retires

After 44 years of answering the call to serve, longtime North Salt Lake resident Lt. John Herndon is retiring — leaving behind a legacy that has helped shape law enforcement across Davis County.

His journey began in 1980 with the U.S. Air Force Security Police at Hill Air Force Base. By 1985, he joined the North Salt Lake Police Department full-time, serving a community that was much smaller then but growing quickly. Through the years, he rose from Patrol Officer to Administrative Sergeant, earned a place at the prestigious FBI National Academy, and became known for his steady leadership and commitment to public safety.

Following the attacks of September 11, Herndon was called back to active duty, supporting national security efforts and assisting federal agencies during the 2002 Winter Olympics — service that earned him the USAF AFMC NCO of the Year honor.

After nearly 22 years with North Salt Lake Police, he continued protecting local residents with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office and later the District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation, where he served as a Lieutenant until this second and well-earned retirement.

With 27 years in the Air Force and more than four decades in law enforcement, Lt. Herndon says the greatest reward has been the friendships he made along the way — and the chance to live out his calling to serve others.

💙 Davis County is safer because of leaders like Lt. Herndon. Here’s to a retirement filled with well-deserved rest, new adventures, and the gratitude of a community he faithfully protected.
