Three Hospitalized After Traffic Barrier Incident on I-15
Three individuals sustained serious injuries in a collision on I-15 in Sunset when their Honda CR-V, attempting to exit the freeway, swerved back into the main lanes and struck a semitruck. The impact caused the vehicle to ricochet into a traffic barrier, which was subsequently hit by a Nissan. The occupants of the Honda were transported to the hospital in serious condition. The incident led to the temporary closure of two lanes as emergency crews cleared the site.

Welcome to “Medicare Monday“
Brought to you by John Miller, your Medicare Specialist.
Weekly Expert Tip:
Medicare Tip of the Week: Understanding Your Over-The-Counter (OTC) Benefit
This week’s Medicare tip shines a light on a valuable but sometimes overlooked feature of many Medicare Advantage plans: the Over-The-Counter (OTC) Benefit. This benefit allows you to purchase everyday health items without a prescription, using funds from your plan.
What is the OTC Benefit?
The OTC benefit provides a specific allowance that can be used to buy approved, non-prescription health items such as vitamins, pain relievers, cold medications, bandages, and more. This benefit is designed to enhance your healthcare by providing easy access to items that can help manage common health issues and support your wellness.
How Does It Work?
- Eligible Products: Each plan provides a list of eligible items that can be purchased with the OTC benefit. This list often includes first aid supplies, generic over-the-counter medications, and personal care items.
- Purchasing Options: Depending on your plan, you can purchase items online, over the phone, or in-store at participating locations. Some plans even offer home delivery options.
Flex Cards for Added Convenience
Some Medicare Advantage plans offer a "Flex Card" — a debit card preloaded with your OTC benefit amount. Flex cards may also be used for other qualifying health expenses, such as dental, vision, or hearing services, depending on the specifics of your plan.
Why It Matters:
Utilizing your OTC benefit can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs on everyday items, contributing to overall health maintenance and potentially preventing the need for more serious medical interventions.
Getting Started:
If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, check with your provider to see if you have an OTC benefit and inquire about how to activate and use it. If you’re considering a Medicare Advantage plan, take the OTC benefit into account when comparing your options.
Need More Information?
If you have questions about how to maximize your OTC benefit or need assistance understanding your Medicare plan options, contact John Miller. John is ready to help you navigate your benefits and ensure you get the most out of your Medicare coverage.
