🧠 Life Matters Marks New Chapter in Farmington

Life Matters Counseling and Psychological Services is celebrating its new Davis Chamber of Commerce membership with a ribbon cutting on Monday, Aug. 24, from noon to 1 PM. The practice has been located in Farmington since 2015 and offers individual therapy in English and Spanish, psychological and ADHD testing, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. 🌲 Readers Share More Bark Beetle Concerns

After our recent story about bark beetles, more local residents have reached out to share what they’re seeing—and to encourage neighbors with mature pine, spruce, or fir trees to take a closer look.

Bountiful resident Randy Oveson recently discovered bark beetles in his own pine trees. Thankfully, he said the problem was caught early enough for the trees to be evaluated and treated.

“These are mature trees that have taken decades to grow,” Randy wrote. “It would be unfortunate to lose more of them simply because homeowners weren’t aware of the problem until it was too late.”

Another reader near the Bountiful/North Salt Lake border shared a similar experience with a Douglas fir. After noticing damage, the family contacted Codye Cunningham with Green Point Tree Care. The tree was treated, dead branches were later removed, and new growth is now beginning to return.

What should you watch for?

• Fine sawdust on the bark or around the tree’s base

• Small holes or globs of resin on the trunk

• Needles turning yellow, reddish-brown, or brown

• Dieback beginning near the top

Browning doesn’t always mean bark beetles, so homeowners should have a qualified tree professional identify the problem before treating it.

🌲 Have a mature evergreen? Take a few minutes to inspect it. Catching a problem early may give you more options—and could help protect nearby trees, too.

🏈 Farmington Football Eyes Region 1 Climb

Farmington High’s Phoenix were picked to finish third in Region 1 in the preseason coaches poll, behind Davis and Syracuse. Second-year head coach David Fiefia will lean on a younger roster this season after several starters graduated from last year’s 5-6 team.

Farmington fans have a young squad to watch as the Phoenix look to make some noise in a competitive Region 1.

🏈 Bountiful Football Brings Experience Into 2026

Bountiful enters the 2026 season tied for fourth in the Region 6 preseason coaches poll, but the Redhawks return plenty of experience — including eight offensive starters and six on defense. Coach Jason Freckleton says the team expects to be physical up front while bringing speed and athleticism at the skill positions.

After reaching the 5A quarterfinals last season, Bountiful has a veteran group looking to make another postseason push.

Rusty is quite the social butterfly. He loves making friends with people, cats, and dogs—and if there’s a wrestling match happening, you can bet Rusty wants in on the action! 😂🐾

He’s also a champion face-kisser who knows how to settle in and relax once the fun is over. Basically, Rusty has mastered the perfect balance of play hard, cuddle hard. ❤️

And when treats are involved? Rusty has excellent taste. His favorites are bacon and liver—and we’re guessing he doesn’t need much convincing when either one appears! 🥓

Whether he’s playing, wrestling, handing out kisses, or simply hanging out with his favorite people, Rusty brings plenty of personality and joy wherever he goes.
