Powder Mountain Revolutionizes Skiing Experience with Semi-Private Model
Powder Mountain in Utah is shifting to a semi-private model next year, reserving certain lifts for on-mountain homeowners while keeping others public. The resort is investing $20 million in upgrades, including new and upgraded lifts. CEO Reed Hastings, also an executive at Netflix, states this move aims to boost real estate sales and avoid overcrowding, while keeping the resort independent. Prices for night skiing have been slashed to increase community access.

Utah Deploys High-Tech System to Curb Wrong-Way Driving and Enhance Road Safety
Utah's Department of Transportation has rolled out an innovative detection system to combat wrong-way driving on its roads. This move follows a troubling trend of such incidents, including 18 crashes with six fatalities this year. The high-tech system, already installed at 15 locations, includes radar, infrared cameras, and LED signs, and has proven effective in a recent test. The state has committed $2.5 million for further expansion, addressing a significant road safety issue.

Rising Retail Theft at Bountiful TJMaxx Calls for Urgent Security Review
A recent incident at a local TJMaxx store has sparked concerns over the rising trend of smash-and-grab thefts and the store's response to such crimes. An anonymous shopper reported witnessing a theft where two individuals ran out of the store with armfuls of merchandise and escaped in a waiting vehicle.
The witness, who was entering the store at the time of the incident, managed to take photographs of the getaway vehicle, although the license plate was partially obscured. Despite this, the last three letters of the plate were visible in the images.
Upon informing the store employees of the incident and offering the photographic evidence, the shopper was surprised to learn that TJMaxx's corporate policy restricts employees from contacting the police in such situations. The employees revealed that the store experiences similar thefts two to three times a day.
The witness, disturbed by the event, took the initiative to report the incident to the police, hoping it would aid in apprehending the perpetrators.
This occurrence has raised questions about the store's security measures and policies. The anonymous shopper expressed frustration over the corporate directive, which seemingly allows such criminal activities to go unchecked. The lack of immediate action by the store could lead to an increase in product prices to offset the losses incurred by theft.
The shopper suggested that the store consider hiring a security guard or implement more effective security strategies to deter such crimes. The incident underscores a growing need for retail establishments to reevaluate their policies and security measures in the face of frequent thefts, which not only impact their business but also the safety and prices for consumers.
