🌿 Utah Drops License Rule for Wildlife Areas

Utah lawmakers are rolling back a controversial rule that required hikers, bikers, and birdwatchers to buy a hunting or fishing license to enter Wildlife Management Areas. Instead, visitors will watch a short 2–3 minute online video and receive a free digital permit starting July 1. The change comes after heavy backlash from outdoor users across northern Utah. 👉 Read more

Why It Matters:
Places like Farmington Bay and other nearby wildlife areas are popular with South Davis hikers and birdwatchers—so access just got simpler (and cheaper).

🦠 Measles Exposure Sites Circulating in Bountiful & Centerville

A graphic circulating on local community social media pages lists several possible measles exposure locations in Bountiful and Centerville. As of now, the Davis County Health Department has not publicly confirmed these locations, though measles cases connected to the broader Utah outbreak have been acknowledged. Officials typically confirm exposure sites after contact tracing is completed.

Potential locations mentioned online:
• Megaplex Theatres – Centerville | March 1 | 6:40–11:40 PM | Watch for symptoms until March 22
• Cafe Rio – West Bountiful | Feb 28 | 7:30–10 PM | Watch for symptoms until March 21
• Plates & Palates – Bountiful | Feb 27 | 4–7 PM | Watch for symptoms until March 20

Health officials say measles symptoms can appear 7–14 days after exposure, and residents should monitor for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or a spreading rash.

Why It Matters:
If these locations are confirmed, residents who visited during those times may need to monitor symptoms for up to 21 days after exposure.

🌼 Allergy Season Is Starting

Health experts say allergy seasons are getting longer nationwide, and early spring pollen is already starting to appear in parts of Utah. Tree pollen—especially from juniper, maple, and elm—tends to spike along the Wasatch Front in March. If you’re noticing itchy eyes or morning congestion, the season may already be underway.

Why It Matters:
Many South Davis residents already deal with spring tree pollen—so a longer season could mean symptoms sticking around deeper into summer.
👉 A few small habits this week can help reduce pollen exposure around your home and commute.

Local Tip Box: What To Do This Week

  • Keep windows closed on windy afternoons when pollen counts spike.

  • Change your HVAC filter if it hasn’t been replaced since winter.

  • Shower or change clothes after yard work or hikes.

  • Check local pollen forecasts before planning outdoor activities.

🥎 Bountiful Softball Falls to Grantsville

Bountiful High softball dropped a nonregion matchup to Grantsville, 11–1, on Friday. Grantsville pulled away with four runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth, while Bountiful struggled defensively with seven errors. Payten Bytheway earned the win for Grantsville, striking out five, while Peyton Orchard drove in Bountiful’s lone run in the fourth inning.

Why It Matters:
Early nonregion games like this help Bountiful work out lineup and defensive adjustments before region play begins.
