Honey Bees Flower GIF by University of California

๐Ÿ Buzz Check: Where Are the Bees This Spring?

A local resident sparked a lively neighborhood conversation after wondering if bees seem scarce this spring. Responses from across the Salt Lake area were mixedโ€”some neighbors say their yards are buzzing with honeybees and bumblebees, especially around blooming plants like wisteria and fruit trees, while others report seeing mostly wasps or fewer bees than usual. We did a quick check, and while pollinator activity can feel slower early in the seasonโ€”especially with cooler weatherโ€”experts say bees are still out there and tend to ramp up as more plants hit full bloom.

Why It Matters: Pollinators directly impact our gardens, trees, and local food supplyโ€”so even small seasonal shifts can affect what blooms (and what doesnโ€™t) in our neighborhoods.

Out of Area: Conversation is centered in Salt Lake neighborhoods but highlights a seasonal trend worth watching locally.

๐Ÿ•Lucky Slice Pizza Grand Opening TODAY on Main Street

A new Lucky Slice Pizza is officially opening Monday, April 13, bringing a fresh dining option to Bountifulโ€™s Main Street. The spot replaces a retiring business, with help from the cityโ€™s RDA to transform the space into a vibrant restaurant. Hours are Mondayโ€“Thursday 11 AMโ€“9 PM, Fridayโ€“Saturday 11 AMโ€“10 PM, and Sunday Noonโ€“9 PM.

Why It Matters: More local dining options mean more energy (and foot traffic) for Main Streetโ€”and another go-to pizza spot for Bountiful families.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Layton Hills Mall Honors Military Kids

Layton Hills Mall is teaming up with Blue Star Families to celebrate the Month of the Military Child with special activities and recognition for military families. The event highlights the resilience and contributions of kids in military households.

Why It Matters: While just north of our core area, many South Davis families have military tiesโ€”this is a chance to show support and celebrate local kidsโ€™ sacrifices.

๐ŸŽฎ Farmington High Wins State in First-Ever Esports Championship

The Quick Summary: Big win for Farmingtonโ€”Farmington High School claimed the 6A title at Utahโ€™s first-ever high school esports state championships over the weekend. Teams competed in games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and Rocket League, with Farmington edging out Bingham to take the top spot. Schools across the state participated, but Farmington brought home the headline victory for our area.

Why It Matters: This puts Farmington on the map in a fast-growing sport, giving local students new ways to compete, connect, and represent their school.

๐ŸฅŽ Viewmont Rolls, Woods Cross Battles, Braves Fall Late

Viewmont shut out Skyline 17-0 behind big performances from Peyton Burningham and Ricki Smith, while Olympus overpowered Woods Cross 24-9 despite a late Wildcats rally. Bountiful couldnโ€™t hold an early lead, falling 15-5 to Deseret Peak after a 12-run sixth inning comeback.

Why It Matters: These early region and nonregion games set the tone for local teams as they build momentum (or regroup) heading deeper into the season.
