Angel Studiosβ Homestead Brings Major Production to Davis County
A new series titled Homestead, produced by Angel Studios, is being filmed entirely in Davis County, Utah. The show is based on a movie set to release in December, which tells the story of a family surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. The production has brought significant economic benefits to the region, with $1.6 million expected to be spent locally. The series stars Neal McDonough and Dawn Olivieri, and filming will continue through December, employing over 300 people.

Utah Board Denies Compassionate Release for Inmate in 1980 Murder Case
John Pender Miller Jr., a convicted child killer serving a life sentence for the 1980 murder of a 2-year-old, has been denied compassionate release by the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. Despite suffering from severe medical issues, Miller, now 59, will remain incarcerated for at least another year. The board will reconsider his case in 2025 after additional medical and psychological evaluations are completed. Miller has been in prison since the crime was committed when he was 15 years old.

Utah District Reflects on Swift Action in School Shooting Threat
In September, the Uintah School District in Utah faced a serious school shooting threat from a middle school student. The district promptly implemented a lockdown and worked with local authorities to trace the student's phone, eventually taking the student into custody. The incident highlighted the challenges in tracing threats and the importance of rapid response. School officials have since identified areas for improvement in threat handling, particularly in speeding up the tracing process, as delays could complicate evacuations and safety protocols.
