Free Mental Health Screening for Preschool to 6th Graders in Davis County
Davis County, Utah, is organizing a mental health screening for children from preschool to sixth grade on October 29. The event, hosted by Davis Behavioral Health and the county health department, aims to address mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, and suicidality among young children. Parents can schedule a 30-minute session with a therapist after completing an online questionnaire by October 23. The screenings help identify developmental concerns and provide resources for both children and their families. Sessions are also available in Spanish.
Utah Health Officials Probe E. coli Outbreak Tied to McDonald's Burgers
Utah health officials are investigating an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to McDonaldβs Quarter Pounders that has sickened multiple individuals across several states. The bacteria is particularly dangerous, often leading to severe complications such as kidney failure or hospitalization. The source of contamination is still under investigation, but federal and state agencies have begun traceback efforts to identify the specific cause. E. coli infections often result from consuming contaminated food or water, and symptoms usually include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.
McDonald's has taken swift action, temporarily halting Quarter Pounder sales in affected areas while authorities continue their probe.

Family Warns of Corn Pit Dangers After Son Undergoes Life-Saving Lung Surgery
A family outing at an Ogden pumpkin patch turned into a medical emergency when a 2-year-old boy inhaled a corn kernel while playing in a corn pit, leading to a severe lung infection. The child initially appeared fine, but later developed a persistent cough and breathing difficulties. After medical evaluation, doctors discovered that the kernel had lodged in his lung, leading to a serious infection. Surgery was required to remove the kernel and treat the infection, preventing further complications. The family now urges caution when allowing young children to play in similar environments, highlighting the hidden dangers of such activities.
β½οΈ Davis Dominates Mountain Ridge 5-0, Secures Spot in 6A Soccer Final
Davis High School's girls' soccer team dominated Mountain Ridge 5-0 in the 6A state semifinal, earning a spot in the championship. Davis showcased offensive power, with Cadence Parker scoring the first goal just a minute into the game. Simone Packer added two goals, while Kate Willard contributed both a goal and an assist. The victory sends Davis back to the state final for the first time since 2022, where they previously won the title. They will face Lone Peak, the 2023 champions, in the final.
