Davis County Adopts New Emergency Alert System for Residents
Davis County, along with five other northern Utah counties, is switching to the Everbridge emergency alert system this week. This new platform replaces the previous CodeRed system and offers more customizable and precise notifications for residents. Davis County citizens are encouraged to sign up to receive critical alerts, such as evacuation orders and emergency updates. The system allows users to tailor the types of notifications they receive, ensuring timely and relevant information during emergencies.

NSL Spooktacular Adds 5K Costume Run to 2024 Festivities
The North Salt Lake (NSL) Spooktacular event is back with exciting new additions this year! Scheduled for October 26, 2024, the event will now feature a 5K Costume Run and a special kids' run. Participants are encouraged to race in costume, with fun prizes up for grabs. From 10 AM to 12 PM, the festivities at Hatch Park will also include carnival-style games, live music, food, and plenty of photo opportunities. This family-friendly celebration promises fun for all ages, so be sure to mark your calendars for a spooky good time. More Info

Organized Retail Theft in Utah Faces New Legal Crackdown
A new Utah bill proposes stricter penalties for retail theft, especially for organized groups or crimes committed across state lines. It aims to elevate charges for thieves working together, or those with prior convictions in other states, by enhancing offenses to felonies in some cases. Concerns have been raised about the potential for racial profiling, but supporters argue it's focused on collaborative criminal activities. The bill also allows businesses to claim retail rather than wholesale costs for restitution.

πββοΈ ππ»ββοΈ Viewmont Boys and Farmington Girls Win Close Races at Davis District Championships
The Davis District cross country championships were held on September 18 at Layton Commons Park, with standout performances by Peter Gehring of Viewmont and Ellie Dorius of Farmington. Gehring won the boys' varsity race, helping Viewmont claim the team title. Dorius, a freshman, took first place in the girls' race, leading Farmington to a narrow victory over Viewmont. Both races featured top runners from multiple schools. The event sets the stage for regional competitions ahead of the state finals in October.
π Davis and Bountiful Excel in Regional Football Showdown
In an action-packed week of high school football, Davis triumphed over Weber 39-37 in their Region 1 opener, improving to 5-1. Meanwhile, Bountiful dominated Northridge in Region 5, winning 42-14. Woods Cross pulled off a thrilling 50-34 victory against Viewmont, with running back Villami Tapaβatoutai matching a school record of seven touchdowns. Farmington narrowly lost to Syracuse in overtime, 38-37, continuing a tough season. This sets the stage for more intense regional matchups.
