A Year Later: What Do Utah Residents Think of Their New State Flag?
A year after Utah introduced a new state flag, opinions among its residents are divided. A recent poll shows 41% in favor of the flag, 37% against, and 22% undecided. The flag, selected from about 7,000 submissions, features a beehive, a white star, and a mountain backdrop in blue, red, and white. State Senator Daniel McCay, who led the flag change initiative, suggests resistance to change is common but expects the flag's popularity to grow. Despite his optimism and promotion of the flag, there is controversy, with some criticizing it as erasing state history and representing special interests. "Restore Utah's Flag" is campaigning to repeal the new design. Support for the flag has slightly decreased since March, and McCay is open to revisiting the flag issue in the future. He encourages residents to show state pride, regardless of the flag preference.

🚔Fatal Shooting in West Bountiful Parking Area; Suspect Arrested Following Standoff
In West Bountiful, Zachary Carson, 50, was fatally shot in a Lowe's parking lot while helping a woman with divorce paperwork. The woman's estranged husband, Jake Jackson, 31, secretly tracked her, leading to a confrontation in the parking lot. Carson's intervention resulted in Jackson shooting him. Jackson was later arrested after a tense standoff with police on U.S. 191. He faces murder and assault charges. The community is shaken as investigations continue.
🚒 Warm Community Support as Bountiful Home Overcomes Attic Fire, Upper Level Severely Damaged
A significant house fire occurred late Saturday night in the Summerwood neighborhood of Davis County, Bountiful, severely damaging the upper level and attic of a family home. First responders arrived at the scene around 11:30 p.m., facing a challenging situation. Fortunately, the family evacuated safely, avoiding injuries. The firefighting efforts necessitated a temporary closure of Summerwood Drive and the cooperation of local residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Chief Mike Hansen's team, with the extent of damages yet to be determined. This incident highlights the community's resilience, unity, and emergency preparedness.

Bountiful Mayor Kendalyn Harris Inspires Boulton Elementary Students with Revised Leadership Mantra: Emphasizing Respectful Communication and Kindness
Mayor Kendalyn Harris visited Boulton Elementary, inspiring students with valuable leadership lessons. Initially using the phrases “Show up,” “Speak up,” and “Shut up” to describe leadership qualities, Harris revised her approach after feedback. She now promotes “Show up,” “Speak up,” and “Listen up,” emphasizing respectful communication. This change highlights the importance of word choice and respectful disagreement. Harris's visit and message encouraged students to be positive, respectful voices in their community, fostering a culture of kindness and respect.
