New Crosswalk Signals in Davis County Aim to Protect Pedestrians

Davis County is exploring new traffic light features aimed at improving pedestrian safety. The Utah Department of Transportation is considering pedestrian head-start signals, which give people a few seconds to begin crossing before vehicles get a green light.

These signals are being looked at for intersections with high foot traffic or a history of accidents—such as areas near schools, shopping centers, and public transit stops. The goal is to make pedestrians more visible to drivers, especially when cars are turning.

Other cities that use these signals have seen fewer pedestrian-related crashes. Giving walkers a brief head start helps ensure drivers spot them before entering the crosswalk.

The effort is part of Utah’s Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. While Davis County isn't installing the signals just yet, UDOT is studying where they could make the biggest impact.

Community Cleanup Set to Target Invasive Weed Threatening NSL Trails

An invasive plant species is threatening North Salt Lake’s scenic landscapes, and city officials are calling on residents to step in. Spurge, a fast-spreading weed known for its harmful effects on native vegetation and its toxic sap, has been making a strong resurgence across Utah. With spring offering the best window for eradication, local efforts are kicking into gear.

To combat the spread, the City of North Salt Lake is hosting a community cleanup event on Saturday, April 19, at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers are invited to gather at Springhill Geological Park, located at 191 Springhill Drive.

Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and a readiness to dig in, as this collaborative effort aims to preserve the local ecosystem and protect both wildlife and public spaces. City leaders are urging residents to spread the word and join the cause to help "purge the spurge" from the area’s treasured trails and parks.

🏒 Utah Hockey Club Rebounds with Key Win Over Calgary

The Utah Hockey Club broke a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Wranglers at home, securing its 28th victory of the season. With only nine games left in the regular season, the team remains focused on its playoff push, bolstered by solid play and continued fan support.

Solo Vehicle Accident Leaves Woman Hospitalized in Critical Condition

A woman is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday near 720 South and 5600 West in Salt Lake City. Emergency crews responded around 3:40 a.m. and transported the severely injured woman to a hospital. Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and the woman’s identity has not been released.
