Bountiful Residents Flag Playground Hazards on Social Media
Concerns over playground safety in Bountiful surfaced online after a community member warned others about a broken slide at Bountiful City Park. The post, shared in a local Facebook group, urged parents to be cautious and asked how to report the issue.
Bountiful’s city engineer responded quickly, saying he would alert the Parks Department. Other residents chimed in, noting additional problems—like inappropriate graffiti hidden inside equipment at Creekside Park.
The quick exchange highlights how residents are using social media to report and resolve local issues, with hopes that city crews will act swiftly to make necessary repairs.

South Davis Races to Launch Handcart Days Festivities
Bountiful’s annual Handcart Days celebration will begin bright and early with a trio of community races organized by South Davis Recreation. On parade morning, runners of all ages can join in the fun with the Handcart Half Marathon at 5:30 a.m., the Frontier 5K at 6:30 a.m., and the kid-friendly Pioneer Pete 1K at 7:30 a.m.
The event features a unique shotgun start, with support along the course from volunteer pacers and local sponsors staffing water and aid stations. Young participants in the 1K can look forward to running alongside the Pioneer Pete mascot.
Winners will receive themed prizes, including Utah-shaped cutting boards etched with the state’s map for top overall finishers, and cowbells for division winners. Organizers expect between 500 and 600 runners to take part this year.
Same-day registration is available, though participants are encouraged to sign up in advance at active.com or visit southdavisraces.com for more information.
The races aim to bring families together and promote healthy living in the community, making them a well-loved tradition leading into the festive Handcart Days parade.
🏢 New Sidewalk Coming to City Hall Driveway and 100 East
Centerville City will replace the sidewalk at 100 East and the City Hall Well Driveway this summer, awarding the project to Advanced Paving with a low bid of $56,120. The work includes removing the existing asphalt and concrete, replacing base materials, and installing a new wheelchair-accessible ramp.
The location was initially referred to as the "Randall Property Sidewalk" during discussions, causing brief confusion among city council members. City Manager Brant Hanson clarified that the city now owns the property, which was formerly held by the Randall family.
Councilmember Gina Hirst offered the motion to approve the bid, and the council unanimously agreed at its June 3 meeting. Advanced Paving was selected over five other contractors, with bids ranging up to $116,950.
