Local Pools Welcome Swimmers for Memorial Weekend Fun
As Memorial Day weekend approaches, local families are gearing up for the unofficial start of summer โ and that means pool time is back on the calendar.
At the South Davis Recreation Center, public swim hours shift just in time for the holiday. Beginning Friday, May 23, indoor public swimming will open at 12:30 p.m. daily. While the centerโs outdoor pool and splash pad will remain closed for now, staff promise an update on their official opening date is coming soon. Visitors can still look forward to beating the heat in the indoor facilities while summer fun builds momentum.
Meanwhile, the Farmington Pool, managed by Farmington Parks & Recreation, is ready to welcome swimmers starting Saturday, May 24 at noon. The facility will be open for the full holiday weekend, including Memorial Day. Whether itโs a relaxing float or some energetic cannonballs, the Farmington Pool invites residents to dive into the season.
Both locations are set to be popular spots for families looking to cool off and kick off summer with a splash.

Centerville Halts Fluoride Use in Compliance with Statewide Ban
Centerville has stopped adding fluoride to its drinking water following a new state law banning the practice. The city began distributing non-fluoridated water on May 7 and is now working on dismantling its fluoride equipment and planning long-term disposal of the remaining chemical. City officials are also reviewing the future of a local fill station created for non-fluoridated water access, which may now serve as an emergency water source.

๐ Viewmont Crowned 5A Boys Track Champions After Decades-Long Wait ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Viewmont High School won the 5A boys state track and field championship at BYU, earning their first title since 1996. The teamโs victory was fueled by consistent performances across multiple events, including a gold-medal run by Ty Cottle in the 800 meters and a clutch 4x400 relay win. Depth and balance across track and field events proved decisive in securing the title over close competitors.

Mother Gives Birth on Side of I-15; Both Doing Well
A woman gave birth to a baby boy on the shoulder of northbound I-15 in Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon. The unexpected delivery occurred near 2700 South, and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper arrived after the birth to assist and transport the family to the hospital. Both mother and baby are doing well. The right lanes were temporarily closed but reopened within an hour and a half.
