From Heartbreak to Hope: Bountiful Couple Welcomes Healthy Baby After Genetic Discovery
After losing two newborns to a rare condition where babies are born without kidneys, Jeff and Bre Goodwin of Bountiful, Utah, were determined to find answers. Though initially told it wasn’t genetic, testing revealed a likely cause: a mutation in the SALL1 gene.
With help from fertility specialist Dr. Matt Peterson, they confirmed both lost children carried the mutation. Their daughter Murphy did not. Through IVF and genetic screening, the couple identified healthy embryos, and in April 2025, Bre became pregnant again.
At 15 weeks, an ultrasound confirmed their baby — Vincent Golden Goodwin — had kidneys. He was born healthy, marking the end of a long journey shaped by grief, persistence, and science.
The Goodwins now share their story to encourage genetic testing and to offer hope to other families facing medical uncertainty.

Strange Perfume Encounters Reported Outside Bountiful Gyms, Residents Warn Others
Several residents have taken to community pages to share unsettling encounters outside local gyms, especially VASA in Bountiful. One woman reported that a man grabbed her elbow and tried to pull her toward a black SUV while claiming to sell perfume and offering her a “modeling opportunity.” She made a scene and the vehicle drove off.
She later called police and was told she wasn’t the only one — multiple similar reports had come in that day.
Others in the area shared near-identical stories: aggressive perfume pitches, unwanted touching, and persistent behavior in parking lots from Centerville to Ogden. Some believe it may be connected to trafficking or robbery attempts, while others debate whether the “laced perfume” rumors are internet myths.
Regardless, locals agree the behavior is inappropriate and unsettling. Community members are urging each other to stay alert, trust their gut, and report anything suspicious directly to police. Many are also encouraging others — especially women — to be loud, carry pepper spray, and not hesitate to make a scene.

Bountiful Library Holding Final Moving Sale This Weekend
The Bountiful Branch Library is hosting a two-day Moving Sale on Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as it prepares for relocation.
Shoppers can browse a wide selection of items, including hardback and paperback books, music CDs, DVDs, books on CD, and various furniture and fixtures. Prices start at just 25 cents, with most items under $1. Bundled sets and art pieces will be individually priced.
All purchases are cash or check only, and buyers must handle removal. Accommodations for patrons with special needs can be arranged by calling 801-451-1760 before the event.
The sale takes place at the current library building at 725 South Main Street, Bountiful.

🏀 Boys Basketball: Davis Holds Off Farmington Rally in Region 1 Thriller, 67-63
Davis came out on top in a tightly contested Region 1 matchup against Farmington, finishing with a 67-63 win. The Darts established early control with a dominant 22-13 first-quarter performance, creating a cushion that proved crucial later in the game.
Despite Farmington mounting a strong comeback with a 24-point third quarter, Davis managed to hold their ground. A standout performance from Bode Sparrow, who posted 24 points, gave Davis the offensive edge. Tradon Bessinger added 15 points, reinforcing the Darts' early advantage. Farmington's Jack Layton led his team with 20 points, but the rally fell just short as Davis secured the win.
