๐ฅ Rocky Canyon Fire Nears Full Containment
After lighting up the mountains east of Bountiful earlier this month, the Rocky Canyon Fire is nearing the finish line.
As of Aug. 22, the 16,500-acre fire was 96% contained and had cost about $6.2 million to fight. State officials say it no longer poses a threat to nearby communities.
Crews may continue working in portions of the burn scar, and smoke could occasionally be visible until snow arrives. The public is still being asked to stay out of the burned area while that work continues. ๐ Read More
๐ฅพ Hiker Rescued Above Bountiful
Davis County Sheriffโs Search and Rescue was called around 9 PM Tuesday after a hiker became lost and stuck in the mountains above Bountiful. Crews traveled by ATV, then hiked about two miles to reach the hiker, who was cold and hungry but able to walk out with rescuers.
Itโs a timely reminder for local hikers to carry food, water and layers, and to tell someone where theyโre headed before hitting the trail.

Police arrested 36-year-old Ammon Etherington early Wednesday in connection with last weekโs shooting at a North Salt Lake trailer park community. He is accused of shooting a man twice in the abdomen and now faces charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.
The arrest follows a violent incident in North Salt Lake and removes a wanted parolee police described as a public safety threat from the community.

โ๏ธ Janetโs Sunshine Cafe Fighting to Stay Open
North Salt Lake favorite Janetโs Sunshine Cafe says it needs $35,364 by SEPT. 31 to cover building rent or the restaurant could close permanently. A GoFundMe organized by the cafe has been launched to help keep the doors open.
Janet Barmore, a Bountiful native, opened the 37-seat cafe in 2005, building a loyal following around scratch-made breakfasts, lunches, and a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. The fundraiser says steps have also been taken to help prevent the financial situation from happening again.
After more than 20 years in North Salt Lake, the cafeโs possible closure would mean losing a longtime local gathering spot and small business. ๐ GoFundMe
