Savour & Sprout - A Culinary Studio

Are you looking for a fun, creative, and educational experience for your kids?
Meet Savour & Sprout: A Culinary Studio, a unique local gem in Bountiful offering culinary classes for youth and teens! Owned and operated by Katrina Dransfield, this culinary studio is a place where young chefs can explore their love for cooking, get hands-on experience in the kitchen, and learn skills that will last a lifetime.
A Passion for Cooking and Empowering Youth
Katrina's journey with food started long before opening Savour & Sprout. As a military spouse, she met Chef Arlena, the founder of the Childrenβs Culinary Institute, and was inspired by her mission to teach children essential cooking skills. Katrina's own passion for creative cooking, experimenting with healthier ingredients, and making memories in the kitchen with her family led her to affiliate with Chef Arlena's program. Now, Katrina brings that same enthusiasm to Bountiful, empowering kids and teens through fun, messy, and educational culinary classes.
Her motto? "Teaching in the kitchen is messy, but it's much more than the mess." And it shows in everything she doesβeach child leaves her studio feeling more confident, adventurous, and skilled.
Unique Offerings for Bountiful
What sets Savour & Sprout apart from other programs? According to Katrina, βThere really isnβt anything else in the Bountiful area that offers an affordable opportunity with such a powerhouse curriculum.β She offers a flexible schedule and competitive pricing, making it easy for families to pick and choose the classes that work for them. Plus, with a variety of classes focusing on different skillsβlike knife safety and international holiday recipesβthereβs always something exciting happening at the studio.
A Growing Community Partner
Although Savour & Sprout is a relatively new business, Katrina is eager to get involved in the local community. Sheβs already partnered with Green Gummy Bears for a fundraising auction and will be teaching a free public class at the Rec Center next spring. Sheβs also open to offering low-cost scouting badge opportunities or group activities for youth groups and is always happy to contribute to local school or church fundraisers.
Upcoming Classes & Events
Exciting things are happening at Savour & Sprout! Fall Session 2 is currently underway, focusing on knife skills for younger students and kitchen gadgets for older students. Registration for Winter Session 1 and 2 is now open, and December brings the best prices of the yearβjust $11 per class! The December classes will be all about international holiday recipes and mastering gourmet hot chocolate, just in time for the holiday season.

Want to learn more or sign up for classes? Visit Savour & Sprout at www.savourandsprout.com, or check out their Facebook page for the latest updates. Katrina is excited to welcome new students into her kitchen and canβt wait to share her love for cooking with your kids!

Bountiful Police Host Drug Take-Back Event at Lakeview Hospital
The Bountiful Police Department, in collaboration with Lakeview Hospital staff, is hosting a "Crush the Crisis" prescription drug take-back event on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Detective Williams and Officer Keith will be present at Lakeview Hospital, located at 630 Medical Drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect unused or expired medications for safe and proper disposal. This is a great chance for residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and prevent potential misuse of medications. For more information, residents can contact dispatch at 801-298-6000.

Davis County Continues Search for Missing K9 Kash in Farmington Area
Authorities in Davis County are continuing the search for K9 Kash, a 1-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer from the Davis County Sheriffβs Office, who has been missing since the evening of October 21. Kash, a friendly and playful corrections K9, disappeared around 9 p.m. after running westward toward the trails near the Sheriffβs facility. Despite ongoing search efforts, which have involved deputies from multiple divisions and even drone assistance, Kash remains missing.
The Davis County Sheriffβs Office has conducted extensive ground and aerial searches throughout Farmington and neighboring areas, but has not been able to locate the missing K9. Most recently, a tip suggested Kash may have been seen in East Farmington on October 23, but despite following up on the lead, Kash has not been found.
Officers from Farmington Police Department have joined the search, and assistance has been received from other partner agencies. The Sheriff's Office is asking the public to stay vigilant and report any sightings of Kash to Davis Dispatch at 801-451-4150.
Kash is described as a friendly dog who enjoys playing fetch, and his safe return is a top priority for the department. The search efforts will continue to expand until Kash is home. Anyone in the Farmington area is urged to be on the lookout for the missing K9 and to spread the word.

Human Skull Found by Elk Hunters in Salt Lake Mountains
On October 15, elk hunters in the Salt Lake backcountry discovered a human skull. The hunters marked the location and contacted the Salt Lake County Sheriffβs Office, which later confirmed the object as part of a human skull. Authorities conducted grid searches but found no additional remains. The skull has been sent to the medical examinerβs office for further investigation. The discovery comes shortly after another skull was found near Brigham City. Residents are encouraged to report any relevant information to authorities.

π BYU Soars While Utah Struggles: A Tale of Two Football Seasons
BYU and Utah are experiencing opposite trajectories in their current football seasons. BYU is thriving, led by standout quarterback Jake Retzlaff, and is drawing comparisons to the team's 1984 national championship performance. Meanwhile, Utah is facing major struggles, having lost three consecutive games, with offensive issues leading to the resignation of offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig. Interim coordinator Mike Bajakian is attempting to turn things around, but questions remain about the teamβs prospects. Historical patterns in Utahβs inconsistent offense have resurfaced, mirroring past challenges from the early 2010s.
