Beware: Scammers Pretending to Be North Salt Lake Police Demand Payments

North Salt Lake police are alerting residents to a scam involving individuals posing as law enforcement officers in an attempt to steal money. The department issued a warning after receiving reports of scammers contacting victims and demanding payment through digital platforms such as Zelle, Venmo, Bitcoin, or gift cards.

Officials emphasize that no legitimate officer from their department will ever request money in this manner. Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately and avoid providing any form of payment or personal information.

For those unsure about the legitimacy of a call, authorities encourage verification by contacting the police department’s administrative line at 801-335-8650. Anyone who has already fallen victim to the scam should report it by calling non-emergency dispatch at 801-298-6000.

The department urges the community to spread awareness and help prevent further scams by informing friends, family, and neighbors.

‘Yeti’ Is Out: Utah NHL Team Down to Final Three Name Choices

Utah’s upcoming NHL team has taken another step toward establishing its identity, trimming its list of potential names to three: Utah Hockey Club, Utah Mammoth, and Utah Outlaws. The announcement, made by team officials, confirms that "Utah Yeti," a fan-favorite, has been eliminated from the running.

The decision comes after months of community engagement and fan voting, which initially produced six possible names. The team, owned by Ryan Smith’s Smith Entertainment Group, has emphasized the importance of choosing a name that reflects both the region’s culture and the sport’s intensity.

While "Yeti" had strong support among fans, officials cited trademark concerns and other factors in their decision to remove it. The three remaining names—each with distinct branding potential—will now undergo further review before the franchise makes a final selection. The official team name is expected to be announced in the coming months.
