Fall from Ladder Critically Injures Man During Gutter Cleaning in Layton
Two men were injured—one critically—while performing routine maintenance on rain gutters in Layton on Saturday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the scene near 1400 North and Hill Field Road around 2:30 p.m. after a report that two individuals had fallen.
Investigators believe the pair was using a ladder to access the roof of a home when an apparent accident caused both to fall to the ground. Layton Fire Department officials stated that one man sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The other man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance.
Authorities have not released the identities of the individuals involved. The incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the fall. Weather conditions and equipment failure have not been ruled out.
As springtime maintenance becomes more common, officials urge residents to take extra precautions when using ladders or working at heights.

Centerville Intersection Closed After Gas Line Rupture
A damaged gas line at the intersection of 400 West and Parrish Lane in Centerville prompted a full closure Monday afternoon, after a construction crew accidentally struck the line around 1:35 p.m.
Emergency crews quickly arrived on scene to assess the damage and begin safety procedures. Due to the size and severity of the gas line break, officials closed the intersection in all directions to ensure public safety. The shutdown affects both vehicle and foot traffic, and authorities are urging everyone—motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians—to avoid the area until further notice.
Repair crews are actively working to contain the leak and begin restoration efforts. However, city officials have indicated that the duration of the closure is uncertain and could impact the Tuesday morning commute if repairs extend into the night.
Centerville Police are coordinating with utility companies and emergency services and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Swift Response Leads to Recovery of Children Following Abduction in Sunset
Two young children were found unharmed Friday afternoon following a statewide Amber Alert in Utah. Authorities confirmed both children were located safely in the Salt Lake City area, and their father was taken into custody without incident.
The alert was issued after police in Sunset, Davis County, responded to a concerning call around 3 a.m. Friday. A woman reported that her two children had been taken by their father after a domestic incident at her home. According to police, the man allegedly assaulted the woman and fled with the children, triggering an immediate search effort.
The Amber Alert was activated just before 8 a.m., as officials feared for the children's safety due to the circumstances of the abduction. The alert included descriptions of the suspect, the children, and the vehicle they were believed to be traveling in.
Later in the day, law enforcement successfully located the vehicle in Salt Lake City. Officers confirmed that both children were found in good condition and that the suspect was taken into custody peacefully. The father is now being held as the investigation continues.
Police thanked the public and various law enforcement agencies for their swift response and assistance during the alert. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved or details on potential charges, but the mother is reported to be recovering.
