Strong Winds Expected to Hit Northern Wasatch Front This Weekend
A High Wind Watch is in effect starting this afternoon, October 18, at 4 p.m. and continuing through Saturday, October 19, until 10 a.m. The forecast warns of strong northeast winds, with sustained speeds between 20 to 30 mph and gusts potentially reaching 60 mph. In isolated areas, particularly near canyon outflows, gusts could be even stronger, possibly hitting 70 mph.
The advisory is focused on the Northern Wasatch Front, especially areas along and east of I-15 and the US-89 corridor. Wind speeds are expected to peak just after midnight Friday.
The high winds may result in moving debris, damaging property, and toppling holiday decorations. Additionally, power outages are a possibility. Travelers, especially those driving high-profile vehicles or pulling trailers, should be cautious as dangerous crosswinds could make road conditions hazardous.

Center Street in Kaysville Transitions to One-Way for Improved Parking
A section of Center Street in Kaysville has been converted to a one-way eastbound route from Main Street to 100 East as part of the city's "Vision Main Street" initiative. The project, which adds 17 angled and 16 parallel parking spaces, aims to enhance downtown business access. While the plan initially included similar changes to 100 North, this has been postponed following community feedback. UDOT will still upgrade sidewalk ADA ramps in the area. Residents are advised to follow the new traffic pattern for safety.

π WXHS Volleyball Dominates Cache Challenger Tournament with Undefeated Run
The Woods Cross High School volleyball team went undefeated to win the Cache Challenger tournament, held on October 11-12, 2024. The Wildcats swept through six matches, dropping only two sets in the final against Green Canyon. Star performances came from Avery Poulton with 50 kills, Zamari Christensenβs 100 assists, and Adia Cookβs solid libero play. Head coach Josey Hilton praised the team for their ability to adapt and stay resilient, calling it a complete team effort. Woods Cross currently holds a strong 20-4 overall record this season.

π¨ Police Seek Van After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Layton
A 41-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday night in Layton, Utah. The incident occurred around 8:13 p.m. at the intersection of 1120 North and Main Street. Police are currently searching for a white, older-model cargo van with front-end damage, including a broken passenger side headlight and grill. The driver fled the scene after hitting the pedestrian. Authorities are asking for public assistance in locating the vehicle. The intersection was closed for several hours for investigation. Anyone who sees the van or knows itβs whereabouts is urged to call police at 801-497-8300.
