Welcome to βMedicare Mondayβ
Brought to you by John Miller, your Medicare Specialist.
Weekly Expert Tip:
Medicare Beware: Recognizing False Claims of Medicare Representation
As part of our ongoing Medicare Beware series, this week we focus on a crucial issueβidentifying legitimate Medicare communication. It's important to be aware that Medicare does not employ agents to endorse or sell plans, and genuine Medicare representatives maintain a neutral stance without recommending specific options.
Key Points to Remember:
- No Medicare Agents: Medicare does not have agents, nor do they sponsor specific plans. Anyone claiming to be a "Medicare agent" or suggesting specific plans under Medicare's directive is likely a scammer.
- Neutral Position: Genuine Medicare representatives will never suggest or recommend specific health plans. Medicare's role is to provide information, leaving all decisions up to you.
- Questionable Tactics: Be cautious if someone claiming to be from Medicare asks for personal information that Medicare should already have, such as your Medicare Number. Also, watch for callers with heavy accents or those who seem to be calling from a noisy call center, as these can be signs of overseas scam operations.
- Verify Before You Trust: If you receive a call from someone claiming to represent Medicare and you have doubts about their legitimacy, hang up and contact Medicare directly using the official number or website. This is the safest way to ensure you are dealing with real representatives.
If you're ever unsure about information you've received regarding Medicare, or if something doesn't feel right, contact John Miller for clear and trustworthy guidance. John is dedicated to helping you navigate Medicare safely and effectively, ensuring you make informed decisions without falling prey to scams.
