๐ฅ Transformer Failure Sparks Grass Fire Near Farmington Bay
A grass fire burned about one acre in the Farmington Bay wetlands Saturday night after a reported transformer failure near Highway 177 and Glovers Lane in unincorporated Davis County. South Davis Metro Fire crews responded just before 9:30 PM, with additional brush units from Farmington and Kaysville helping tackle the blaze in the hard-to-reach area. The fire was contained within 30 minutes, and no injuries or structures were affected.
The incident is another reminder of how quickly fires can spread during Utah's dry summer conditionsโand why local fireworks restrictions and wildfire precautions are being taken seriously this year.
A Bit of Good News: Fire officials say cooler temperatures, lighter winds, and existing moisture in the wetlands helped crews stop the fire before it could grow larger. The exact cause remains under investigation.

๐ No Personal Fireworks in South Davis This July 4
Most South Davis cities are following the governor's emergency order and banning personal fireworks from July 2โ5 due to extreme wildfire conditions. North Salt Lake, Bountiful, Woods Cross, Centerville, West Bountiful, and Farmington have all announced that residents should skip backyard fireworks this year, although professionally managed city shows are still moving forward.
With dry conditions across Utah, one stray spark could threaten homes, trails, and open spaces throughout our communities. Residents who ignore the restrictions could face hefty fines and be held responsible for any damages caused.
South Davis At a Glance:
โข North Salt Lake: No personal fireworks, but Liberty Fest's professional show at Eaglewood Golf Course is still scheduled for July 3.
โข Bountiful: Citywide ban in effect, including areas that are normally permitted.
โข Woods Cross: Following statewide restrictions and South Davis Metro Fire recommendations.
โข Centerville: Personal fireworks are banned, but the Freedom Festival show at Community Park is still planned.
โข West Bountiful: The July 3 Carnival and professional fireworks display will continue as scheduled.
โข Farmington: Residents are asked to follow the emergency restrictions to help reduce wildfire risk.
Need to Report Illegal Fireworks? South Davis Metro Fire asks residents to call the non-emergency dispatch line at 801-298-6000 unless there is an active fire or someone is injured.

๐ Building Stronger Athletes On and Off the Court
For the coaches behind Amazonian Athletics, volleyball has always been about more than wins and lossesโit's about hard work, resilience, and believing in what's possible.
Founded by sisters Whitney and Alyssa, Amazonian Athletics was born from their own journey as young athletes growing up in a large family where private trainers and expensive camps simply weren't an option. Through determination, fundraising, supportive mentors, and countless hours of practice, both earned opportunities to play collegiate volleyball, with Whitney continuing her career professionally around the world.
Today, they're passionate about helping the next generation of athletes follow their own pathsโno matter where they're starting.
๐ช Training Athletes to Reach Their Potential
Amazonian Athletics specializes in volleyball-specific performance training, helping athletes improve in key areas that directly translate to success on the court, including:
๐ Increasing vertical jump through plyometric, resistance, and strength-based training.
๐ฅ Developing hitting power by building upper-body strength, improving arm swing speed, and refining technique.
โก Boosting agility and reaction time with drills designed to improve footwork, lateral movement, and quick transitions at the net.
Their philosophy is simple: train like the pros, with coaches who understand both the physical and mental side of the game.
๐ Experience From the Highest Levels of Volleyball

Coach Whitney brings an impressive resume to the program. A former Division I standout at BYU, she helped lead the Cougars to multiple conference championships, a Final Four appearance, and several deep NCAA Tournament runs. Since college, she's competed professionally in Portugal, Israel, Germany, and Hungary, earning championships along the way. She recently signed with the Major League Volleyball (MLV) NorCal team for the upcoming 2027 season.
Whitney is also a Certified Personal Trainer, Sports Nutrition Coach, and Performance Enhancement Specialist, with more than six years of coaching experience focused on helping young athletes build confidence, resilience, and a love for the process of improvement.

Coach Alyssa, an All-American volleyball player at the University of Great Falls in Montana (now known as University of Providence) specializes in strength and conditioning. She is passionate about helping athletes develop proper lifting techniques, build confidence in the gym, and discover just how strong and capable they can become.
โค๏ธ More Than Just Volleyball
At its core, Amazonian Athletics believes that strong athletes become strong people.
Their mission isn't simply to create better volleyball playersโit's to help young people develop confidence, discipline, and the mindset to overcome challenges both on and off the court.
As Whitney and Alyssa put it, they know what it feels like to be the underdog, and they're committed to being the kind of mentors they once needed themselves.
๐ Amazonian Athletics is hosting a 2-hour beginner volleyball camp for ages 6โ12 on Saturday, July 18, from 9โ11 a.m. in Bountiful.
