Centerville Council Blocks Artistโs Bid for Fine Line Body Tattoos
The Centerville City Council voted 3-2 to deny local permanent makeup artist Nicole Hutchins' request to offer fine line tattoos below the neck at her salon on Main Street. Concerns over setting a precedent for tattoo shops in the area influenced the decision. Although disappointed, Hutchins hopes the city will eventually allow such services, as residents currently travel to nearby cities for them. The council plans to consider other locations in Centerville where tattoo shops might operate in the future.

Graduates Work to Rescue Red Barn Academy After Closure Announcement
Red Barn Academy, a beloved nonprofit in Farmington that has helped countless men rebuild their lives, is facing closure. The academy, known for offering a structured, two-year residential program focused on recovery, vocational training, and personal growth, announced it would shut down with little notice. This news left many graduates heartbroken, as the program had given them a second chance and a place to belong.
In response, graduates quickly rallied, launching a petition that gained over 100 signatures in just an hour, hoping to keep the doors open for future participants. The closure also puts current residentsโmany of whom are on probation or paroleโat risk of losing stable housing, which could lead to serious legal challenges.
While Red Barnโs parent organization plans to sell the property and reinvest the proceeds into other charitable causes, those whose lives were transformed by the academy arenโt giving up. Theyโre fighting to preserve a place that gave them hope, purpose, and a path forward.

Final Sale: Everything $1 as Affordable Thrift and Surplus Closes This Week
Affordable Thrift and Surplus, a popular local shop in Bountiful, is wrapping up its run with a massive clearance event. Everything in the store is now priced at just $1!
Shoppers can browse a variety of items, including newly added clothing pieces, during the storeโs final operating hours from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, February 28. The store, located at 2110 Orchard Drive, still has plenty of bargains for those looking to snag last-minute deals.
After serving the community, the shop is closing its doors and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the loyal customers who supported them throughout the journey.

Economic Blackout on February 28: A Chance to Invest in Your Local Community
On February 28, Americans will participate in a 24-hour economic blackout to highlight consumer power and economic inequality. This movement also emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses, which drive community growth and resilience. Shopping small helps keep money circulating locally, fosters job creation, and strengthens neighborhoods. Consumers are encouraged to support local businesses not only during the blackout but all year long.
