โญ๏ธ Bountiful Veteran's Story Added to Memorial Walls
Bountiful Veterans Park has received a new name for engraving on its memorial walls: George Washington Taggart, a veteran of the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican-American War. Taggart was one of roughly 500 men who marched more than 2,000 miles from the Midwest to California in 1846, enduring harsh desert conditions, limited water, and extreme physical hardship.
After his military service, Taggart lived in Bountiful and was hired by Heber C. Kimball to build the grist mill along Mill Stream, just south of present-day Bountiful High School. His addition brings the number of known Mormon Battalion veterans honored on the Veterans Park walls to five.

๐ฅ What Utah town just Banned Fireworks Through End of 2026?
Stockton, a small town in Tooele County, has enacted a complete fireworks ban effective immediately through the end of 2026. City leaders cited ongoing wildfire threats, including the nearby Hastings Fire and the recent South Mountain Fire, which burned more than 1,800 acres before being contained.
Community Reaction: Most commenters supported the ban and many called for a statewide fireworks restriction this year. Others suggested replacing fireworks with drone shows, while some argued fireworks account for a relatively small percentage of human-caused fires and questioned whether bans address the root causes of recent wildfires. ๐ Read More
๐ฌ COMMUNITY CHATTER
๐ The Great Train Debate
Nothing sparks a local debate quite like a stopped train across Center Street.
A recent post in a Community Facebook group struck a nerve when one resident joked about "normalizing questioning Sinclair and their 30-minute train holdups." What followed was a classic Davis County comment section: equal parts frustration, local history lesson, traffic advice, and comedy.
Some residents shared horror stories of watching a train stop, back up, move forward, and then stop again just as the last car was about to clear the crossing. Others pointed out that the trains aren't actually operated by Sinclair but by Union Pacific, while several longtime locals reminded everyone that the railroad tracks have been around for well over a century.
The unofficial consensus? If you're in a hurry, avoid Center Street and 500 South. Veteran locals swear by alternate routes through West Bountiful or 400 North, while others simply accept train delays as a fact of life.
Perhaps the best comment came from the original poster, who eventually stepped back into the discussion to clarify: "You guys, I was literally just killing time while waiting. It's a train. It happens. Can everyone just chill?"
Whether you see train delays as a major inconvenience or just another part of living along the Wasatch Front, one thing is certain: few things unite Bountiful and Woods Cross residents faster than sitting at a railroad crossing and wondering if that train is ever going to move.
And if you're lucky enough to make it across the tracks without stopping? Consider it one of life's little victories.

๐ Post-Fire Rattlesnake Reports Raise Concerns
A widely shared social media post claims rattlesnakes are moving into lower elevations near the University of Utah following the recent foothill fire. Several commenters reported hearing of snake sightings and bite incidents in the area, though some University employees said they had not received any official campus alert. The reports remain unconfirmed through official channels.
Wildlife displacement is a common consequence of wildfires, and hikers, students, and residents near foothill areas may want to use extra caution in the coming weeks.
๐พ PET BUZZ

Brought to you by Scenthound Bountiful
This week's Pup of the Week is Wyatt, an energetic Australian Shepherd who's always ready for his next adventure.
If you ask Wyatt what the best part of the day is, he'll tell you it's dog park time. In fact, he makes sure his family is awake at first light so they don't miss a minute of the fun.
When he's not making new friendsโboth furry and humanโyou'll likely find him enjoying a favorite Greenie, stopping by Fizz for a pup cup, or challenging anyone nearby to an intense game of tug-of-war with his favorite rope toy.
As for fruits and vegetables? Wyatt isn't interested. He's got his own tastes, and he's sticking to them.
Outgoing, playful, and full of personality, Wyatt has never met a stranger. Whether it's another dog or their owner, he's always excited to say hello and make a new friend.
Thank you for bringing so much joy to the Bountiful community, Wyatt. We love having you as part of the pack.
๐ถ Stay tuned next week as we introduce another wonderful local pup in our Bountiful Pup of the Week series! ๐พ
