North Salt Lake warmly invites everyone to the Winter Lights Fest Tonight, November 27, 2023, a magical evening to kick off the holiday season!
This enchanting event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater on the north side of City Hall, located at 10 East Center Street.
A Dazzling Display at City Hall
The highlight of the evening will be the holiday lighting countdown at City Hall. Gather with friends, family, and neighbors at 6:00 pm to experience the moment the city lights up in festive glory, marking the beginning of this joyous season.
Festivities Full of Warmth and Joy
From 6:15 pm to 8:00 pm, immerse yourself in the spirit of the holidays with a variety of activities:
- Seasonal Music: Enjoy the melodies of the holiday season as they fill the air, creating a perfect backdrop for the evening's festivities.
- Hot Cocoa and Treats: Savor delicious hot cocoa and a selection of treats, perfect for keeping you cozy on a crisp winter night.
- Fire Barrels: Warm your hands by the hand-crafted fire barrels, specially created for our 75th anniversary in 2021. They're not just a source of warmth but a piece of our city's history!
- Meet Mr. and Mrs. Santa: A special visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa, arriving in style on one of our fire engines. Don't miss this fantastic photo opportunity for the kids!

A Magical Holiday Event in Centerville
Get ready to step into a world of holiday wonder at the Festival of Lights & Letters to Santa event in Smith Park, Centerville. This family-friendly celebration is set to bring joy and festive spirit to our community, making this holiday season unforgettable!
Lighting Up the Night with Holiday Splendor
Join the mayor and your fellow community members as we light up William R. Smith Park in a spectacular display. The switch will be flipped, illuminating the park with dazzling lights that symbolize the warmth and joy of the season.
Santa's Stylish Arrival and Sweet Treats
In true holiday fashion, Santa Claus will be making a grand entrance, courtesy of the Centerville Police Department. Imagine the excitement as Santa arrives to greet everyone! And what's a festive event without some delicious treats? Thanks to the Youth Council, attendees will enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and donuts, adding a sweet touch to the chilly evening.
Letters to Santa: Share Your Holiday Wishes
The magic of the holidays wouldn't be complete without reaching out to Santa Claus. From November 27 to December 14, children and those young at heart can write letters to Santa. Each letter will receive a personal response from Santa and his elves, spreading joy and keeping the magic of Christmas alive.
You can submit your letters in two ways:
1. Drop them off at the Centerville City Office located at 250 North Main Street, Centerville.
2. Email your letters to [email protected].
For those who need a little help getting started, a downloadable letter template is available on the city's website.
This event is more than just a celebration; it's a heartwarming opportunity to come together as a community and revel in the holiday spirit. High School Friendship Ends in Tragedy: Manslaughter in Bountiful
The Bountiful shooting involving the death of Jacob Hess is now considered a manslaughter case. Suspect Dylan Goodin, a former high school friend of the victim, faces multiple charges, including a second-degree felony for manslaughter. The incident, which occurred during the mishandling of a gun, also led to the discovery of drugs and alcohol at the scene.

Utah Pioneers New Horizons in Medical Cannabis Research
Utah is funding a medical cannabis research project in collaboration with University of Utah Health and Utah State University, focusing on safe usage and interaction with other medicines. The initiative will produce high-quality cannabis for clinical trials and study environmental factors affecting its growth, marking a significant advancement in the state's medical cannabis research and public perception.

Sandy's Pickleball Players Gather in Memory of Beloved Community Member
The pickleball community in Sandy, Utah, gathered to honor Ben Kerbs, a 52-year-old man renowned for his enthusiasm for pickleball and his contributions to the sport. Kerbs, who recently passed away in Puerto Rico, was remembered for his vibrant personality and his role in promoting pickleball in Utah, including building one of the state's first indoor courts. Friends and family described him as an adrenaline junkie who loved life and cared deeply for others. A special event at Club Pickleball USA saw players of all levels, including professionals, come together to play in his memory, with proceeds donated to Kerbs' family. The event highlighted the community spirit and friendship that pickleball fosters, qualities that Kerbs exemplified throughout his life.


Utah Volleyball Teams Set to Shine in NCAA Tournament: BYU, Utah State, and Weber State Take the Stage
Utah is celebrating as BYU, Utah State, and Weber State enter the 2023 NCAA women's volleyball tournament. BYU, ranked 16th, hosts the first rounds, facing Weber State in a highly anticipated match. This marks BYU's 12th consecutive NCAA appearance, led by Coach Heather Olmstead and featuring stars like Erin Livingston and Whitney Bower. Weber State, guided by BYU alumnus Jeremiah Larsen, enters with a strong 21-9 record, while Utah State, under Mountain West coach of the year Rob Neilson, boasts a remarkable season with a 14-match winning streak. The tournament, broadcasting on ESPN networks from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, promises to be an exciting showcase of Utah's volleyball talent.
