💥 Pets and Homes Rattle as Detonations at Tooele Army Depot Cause Valley-Wide Tremors 

Residents across the Salt Lake Valley were startled by loud booms and tremors early Thursday afternoon, prompting concerns and confusion throughout the area. At around 12:40 p.m. on September 19, the Salt Lake City Emergency Management team issued a statement to address the situation. They confirmed that the loud noises and ground vibrations were the result of controlled detonations taking place at the Tooele Army Depot, located to the west of the valley. The detonations occurred in the south range of the depot and were expected to wrap up shortly after the announcement.

While officials reassured the public that there was no threat, many residents took to social media to share their experiences. Some reported that their homes shook and their doors rattled, creating moments of anxiety. One resident commented that her front door sounded like someone was trying to enter, which left her feeling "totally freaked out." Others shared how their pets were unsettled by the shaking, with one person jokingly asking for advance notice so they could give their dogs calming medication before the booms began.

Despite some lighthearted reactions, there were suggestions from the public that prior notification would have been appreciated, as many were caught off guard by the unexpected noise. While the detonations caused widespread concern, the event was quickly explained, leaving residents relieved but perhaps wishing for better communication in the future.

New 55+ Fun Event Brings Together Salt Lake City’s Senior Residents

The "55+ FUN Event" in Salt Lake City is a weekly gathering designed for residents aged 55 and older. Attendees can enjoy music from past decades, participate in friendly games like Pickleball, mini golf, and board games, and make new friends. The event will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will also include snacks. The official start date and venue will be announced once enough people express interest. To join, people are encouraged to sign up through the Facebook group.

🚧 500 South in Bountiful Closed Due to Gas Leak, Repairs Ongoing

A gas leak in Bountiful led to the closure of 500 South between 400 East and 800 East on Wednesday. The leak occurred when Bountiful's water department accidentally hit a 4-inch gas line while repairing a separate water issue. Emergency crews worked to contain the leak, which resulted in nearby office workers being evacuated. The road is expected to remain closed until the afternoon for ongoing repairs.

⚽️ Bountiful Leads Region 5 as Girls' Soccer Season Nears End

As the Utah high school girls' soccer season nears its end, region competitions are heating up. Bountiful leads Region 5 with a strong 9-3 record, aided by Belle Sorensen's standout performance, including a recent four-goal game. Viewmont, close behind, looks to improve their playoff positioning, while Woods Cross struggles to climb the ranks. In Region 1, Davis holds second place with key contributions from Simone Packer and Kate Willard. Teams have just a few games left before the state tournament begins on October 10.
