Meet South Davis Lawmakers at January 15th Town Hall Event

Residents of South Davis County have a valuable opportunity to engage directly with their local legislators ahead of the 2025 legislative session. A town hall meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 15th, at Bountiful City Hall from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. This meeting offers a platform for community members to share their priorities and concerns while gaining insights into upcoming legislative plans.

The event will feature key state representatives, including Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson, Senator Todd Weiler of District 23, Representative Melissa Garff Ballard, and Representative Ray Ward. Community members are encouraged to attend, as this is a chance to make their voices heard on important issues affecting South Davis County and beyond.

Utah Firefighters Deploy to Aid California Wildfire Battle

Sixty-four firefighters from 17 Utah agencies have been deployed to assist in combating California's devastating wildfires. Equipped with 15 fire engines, the team departed from West Valley City and is expected to serve in Southern California for at least two weeks. This marks Utah's fourth deployment to California in six months, highlighting strong inter-state collaboration during wildfire crises.

πŸ€ Region Play Heats Up for High School Boys' Basketball Teams

As the high school boys' basketball season transitions into region play, teams are intensifying their efforts to secure top positions in their respective leagues. In Region 5, Bountiful, Viewmont, and Woods Cross have commenced their league schedules, while Davis and Farmington in Region 1 are gearing up for regional contests.

Bountiful

The Redhawks boast an 8-3 overall record, having triumphed in their initial two region games, placing them in a tie with Bonneville at the top of the standings. On New Year's Eve, Bountiful dominated Box Elder with an 85-63 victory, propelled by a 30-point first quarter. Despite a mid-game rally from Box Elder, the Redhawks maintained control, thanks to 22 points from Charlie Smith and 15 from Bryson Heath. Although they faced an 85-67 setback against Timpview on January 2, Bountiful rebounded the next day with a 66-55 win over Viewmont. Lincoln Smith led this effort with 19 points, including five three-pointers. The team was scheduled to play at Northridge on Wednesday and is set to visit Bonneville on Friday.

Woods Cross

The Wildcats hold a 6-5 overall record, splitting their first two Region 5 matchups. They narrowly lost 45-43 to Bonneville on December 31 in a defensively charged game, with Marcus Stepan, Nate Smith, and Hunter Jackson each contributing nine points. However, they bounced back on January 3 with a 64-51 victory over Box Elder, highlighted by Hunter Jackson's impressive double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds. Woods Cross was slated to play at Clearfield on Wednesday and will host Viewmont on Friday.

Viewmont

The Vikings stand at 5-7 overall and 1-1 in region play. They began their region campaign with a commanding 64-45 win against Roy on December 31, shooting 49% from the field. Senior guard Drez Jensen led the team with 26 points, supported by Adam Henderson's 12 points. In their subsequent 66-55 loss to Bountiful on January 3, Henderson again stood out with 17 points and eight rebounds. Viewmont aimed to improve their region record in a home game against Box Elder on Wednesday.

Farmington

The Phoenix are preparing to enter Region 1 competition following their non-region games. They aim to leverage their experiences thus far to make a significant impact in the upcoming regional matchups.

As region play unfolds, these teams are set to engage in pivotal games that will shape their paths toward postseason success.
