🏃 Utah Takes Center Stage in Ultra Running This Weekend
Utah runners are tackling some incredible challenges this weekend—including one right in Bountiful!
The ninth annual Elephant Rock Trail Run takes over Mueller Park Saturday with 7-mile, 13.8-mile, 26.8-mile and 50K courses through some of Bountiful’s most beautiful—and challenging—mountain terrain.
Nearby, the Salt and Sulfur 420 began Wednesday in Salt Lake City, sending runners on an unbelievable 420-mile journey to West Yellowstone.
Worth the drive, the UTE 100, 50-Mile and 50K races will wind through the spectacular La Sal Mountains near Moab.
Whether you’re racing, cheering or simply wondering why anyone would willingly run 420 miles, Utah is well represented this weekend!
💰 Davis County Considers New Local Sales Tax
Davis County commissioners are considering a new 0.20% local-option sales tax that would add about 2 cents to a $10 taxable purchase. The tax would not apply to groceries.
The proposal could generate approximately $16 million annually for transportation, public safety and other county and city needs. Commissioner Bob Stevenson supports the measure, while Commissioners Lorene Kamalu and John Crofts remain undecided and are seeking additional community feedback.
The commission could approve the tax directly or place the question before voters. If adopted before October 1, it could take effect January 1, 2027.

🌲 Are Bark Beetles Threatening Local Evergreens?
A Centerville resident recently warned that bark beetles may be killing pine trees near Parrish Lane and 300 East. Now neighbors are wondering whether the problem is spreading across South Davis County.
Warning signs can include browning from the top down, fading needles, pitch tubes on the trunk or reddish sawdust around the bark. Because diseases and insects can cause similar damage, experts recommend having the tree properly identified before treating it.
