Bountiful Library Tries to Save Children’s Memory Tiles Before Demolition

Davis County Library officials have begun efforts to preserve the hand-decorated tiles located in the children’s restrooms at the Bountiful Library ahead of the building’s demolition. Created by children and families over the years, the tiles represent cherished memories for many in the community.

The library has attempted professional removal of the tiles, though officials note the tiles are fragile and not all may be successfully saved. Any tiles that can be preserved will be made available at the library’s temporary location later this summer.

Community members who were unable to visit the library before the move are encouraged to watch for updates regarding the tiles through the Davis County Library website and social media channels, where additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

Helping to Spread the Word for Italian Exchange Student Seeking Host Family

Hey all — this was recently shared on a local community page, and we wanted to help spread the word.

Rebecca is a 17-year-old exchange student from Italy who is still looking for a volunteer host family in Utah for the upcoming school year through Aspect Foundation.

She’s a competitive swimmer who trains daily and comes from a family of professional athletes. Outside the pool, Rebecca loves cooking for others, reading manga, playing Minecraft, and spending time with kids. She also teaches swimming at a children’s summer camp and enjoys working with younger children.

Rebecca is excited to hear from a host family, and this is a great opportunity for a local family to experience a cultural exchange while helping a student feel at home. More details can be found on the Facebook post.

Local Swimmers Make Waves at Region 6 Championships

Local teams made a strong showing at the Region 6 Swimming Championships at the South Davis Recreation Center. Woods Cross placed third in the girls team standings, led by Ava Glissmeyer, who won the 100 backstroke and took second in the 100 freestyle. Viewmont’s Mia Greenhalgh added a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly.

On the boys side, Bountiful’s Henry Long earned runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Viewmont’s Henry Helgesen captured the region title in the 100 breaststroke and Thomas Chamberlain placed second in the 50 freestyle — a strong showing for South Davis swimmers heading toward state.
