Another Way to Help Those Impacted by the California Wildfires

The devastating California wildfires have left many families in need, and a group of compassionate community members has organized a way to lend a hand. A local family, along with partners and volunteers, has launched a donation drive to provide essential supplies to those who have lost everything.

The idea started with a family’s desire to help after seeing the tragedy unfold. They decided to create "Spectrum Stands with Los Angeles," a collaborative effort involving Spectrum Academy in North Salt Lake, the nonprofit Lifting Hands International, and Jay’s Tire Pros.

The drive is focused on collecting essential items like diapers, hygiene products, masks, and blankets. Donations must be new, ensuring the highest quality for those in need.

In addition to raising over $25,000 through local businesses and personal contributions, a semi-truck has been secured to deliver the collected supplies to Southern California. Volunteers recently gathered at Walmart in Centerville to purchase and organize items, and the goal is to have the truck fully loaded by Saturday afternoon.

👉 Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate new items. The drive is looking for baby supplies, clothing, hygiene kits, and other emergency essentials.

  • Drop off your donations. Items can be brought to Jay’s Tire Pros (620 S. 500 West, Bountiful, Utah) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations will also be accepted this Saturday, November 18th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Spectrum Academy in North Salt Lake.

This effort has been made possible thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of local businesses and individuals. Organizers hope the community will continue to come together to help fill the truck and make a difference for families impacted by the wildfires.

Donations must be in by Saturday afternoon, so don’t wait. Your contributions—whether it’s a pack of diapers or a box of hygiene items—can bring hope and comfort to those who need it most.

Cheer on Farmington’s Detective Poulsen at the Guns n’ Hoses Charity Hockey Tournament!

Local residents are invited to come together for an action-packed day of hockey while supporting a great cause! The Utah Guns n' Hoses Police vs. Firefighter Charity Hockey Tournament is set to take place on February 1, 2025, at the Maverik Center. This exciting event will feature multiple games throughout the day, pitting local police officers and firefighters against each other in friendly competition. One of the day’s highlights will include Farmington City’s very own Detective Chandler Poulsen taking to the ice.

In addition to the thrilling lineup of charity hockey games, attendees can stick around for an exciting evening match as the Utah Grizzlies take on their rivals, the Idaho Steelheads, at 7 p.m. Tickets grant all-day access to the event and support an important cause—proceeds benefit the families of fallen officers and first responders in times of need.

Community members are encouraged to purchase tickets online and show their support by entering Detective Poulsen's name in the "player" section at checkout. Don’t miss this chance to cheer on our local heroes and enjoy a day of fun, community spirit, and hockey action!

Annies Crepes & Cake

Annie’s Crepes and Cake Continues Drive for Supplies and Pet Adoptions

The local community has once again proven the power of collective kindness, as donations continue to pour in for those in need. Annie, the owner of Annie's Crepes and Cake, shared her heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support her initiative has received. Landon, a truck driver with two young daughters, has played a key role in transporting donations. Earlier this week, he departed for Los Angeles, where he successfully delivered a truckload of supplies to those in need.

Among the many donations collected were essential pet supplies, which have already been delivered to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. These supplies will help support the care of 80 pets arriving in Bountiful from Los Angeles. Annie is encouraging local families to open their hearts and homes by fostering or adopting one of these animals, providing them with the loving environment they deserve.

Annie has announced that her donation drive is still ongoing, as Landon will return to Los Angeles this Sunday for another delivery. She hopes to fill the truck with even more donations for both people and pets, further strengthening the bond between communities across state lines.

Annie’s Crepes and Cake continues to serve as the hub for this effort, inviting residents to drop off their contributions and join in making a difference.

🏀 Farmington Shows Grit in Competitive Battle with Fremont

Farmington High’s girls’ basketball team nearly pulled off a thrilling comeback against Fremont, falling 53-48 in a tightly contested game. After trailing by double digits, the Phoenix rallied in the second half with strong defense and key scoring runs but came up just short. The loss moves Farmington to 6-7 overall, but their determination and fight showcased their potential in a competitive region.

💵 Money Moves: What to Look for
in a Financial Advisor

By Tyler Thomas, Financial Advisor

When choosing a financial advisor, it’s essential to know what factors truly matter. To help, here’s a guide to what you should prioritize—and what may be less critical—when making your decision:

Most Important: Fiduciary Duty

A fiduciary advisor is legally required to put your interests first, avoiding conflicts of interest. This is crucial, as non-fiduciary advisors might recommend products or services that benefit them more than you. Always confirm your advisor’s fiduciary status in writing to ensure their advice aligns with your goals.

Important: Compensation Structure

A transparent, fee-only compensation model is often the best choice, as it minimizes conflicts of interest and ensures the advisor is paid solely for their advice. Whether fees are based on asset management, hourly rates, or flat fees, understanding these costs upfront can prevent surprises down the road.

Can Be Important: Specialization and Services

Consider the advisor’s expertise in relation to your needs. For instance, if you’re approaching retirement, you might value an advisor experienced in retirement planning or tax strategies. Some advisors provide comprehensive services like estate planning, while others focus primarily on investment management. Choose an advisor whose services best fit your goals.

Less Important: Credentials and Qualifications

While reputable credentials such as CFP®, CFA®, or CPA/PFS indicate expertise, they don’t guarantee an advisor’s dedication to your success. Be sure to check their disciplinary history on FINRA BrokerCheck or the SEC’s database, and test their responsiveness by reaching out to gauge how much they value your time.

Most Important: Experience and Communication Style

Experience and clear communication are key. Look for an advisor with a proven track record of working with clients like you, whether you’re a pre-retiree, business owner, or high-net-worth individual. They should provide regular updates, simplify complex financial concepts, and give actionable advice that builds your confidence.

By focusing on these elements, you can find a financial advisor who not only has the expertise but also genuinely cares about helping you achieve your financial goals.
