Davis School District Employees Help Address Urgent Blood Shortage

This summer, blood donation rates in Utah dropped, prompting an urgent call for donors from the Red Cross. Davis School District employees responded, with 55 people donating 59 units of blood last week. The Red Cross depends on these contributions to help those in emergencies, such as cancer patients and trauma victims. Despite 60% of the U.S. population being eligible to donate, only 10% do, underscoring the need for more participation. If you’re able, consider giving a gift that could potentially save someone’s life.

September is National Preparedness Month: Is Your Family Ready?

As National Preparedness Month begins, it's time for residents to reflect on their readiness for emergencies. Sponsored by FEMA, this annual campaign encourages families, businesses, and communities to evaluate their emergency plans and stock up on critical supplies. The Centerville Police Department is reminding residents to take action now by visiting Be Ready Utah for tips and resources.

🏐 Bountiful Volleyball Bounces Back with Win Over Farmington

Bountiful High's volleyball team achieved their first victory of the 2024 season on August 20, triumphing over Farmington with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-21. This win marks a significant rebound following their initial loss to Pleasant Grove. The match showcased strong performances from senior Taylor Harvey and Hannah White, whose exceptional service runs were pivotal in turning the tide in Bountiful's favor.

Competing against a tough Farmington squad, Bountiful demonstrated remarkable depth and resilience. Farmington's standout players, including Becca Wangsgard with nine kills and Clara John with five blocks, provided a formidable challenge. Despite these efforts, Bountiful's determination prevailed, setting a positive tone for their season.

The volleyball season features strong competition from other local high schools such as Woods Cross and Viewmont. These teams are expected to bring high energy and skill to the court, promising an exciting season ahead for all involved. Bountiful's successful start not only boosts team morale but also establishes them as a top contender among the region's elite 5A teams.

Skyward Symphony Shines Light with
Free Community Concerts

The Skyward Symphony, a community orchestra in Davis County, brings joy and light through free concerts. Directed by Jonathan Nish, a criminal defense lawyer, the orchestra offers a needed balance to the darker aspects of his profession. The ensemble, which began in 2018 with fewer than 40 musicians, has now grown to over 70. They recently performed a well-attended summer concert featuring music by John Williams. The symphony emphasizes inclusivity and encourages young musicians to join, fostering a love for orchestral music in the community.
