North Salt Lake Prepares for 2025 Elections with Candidate Night Event

North Salt Lake will host a 2025 Municipal Election Candidate Night on Thursday, September 25. The event includes a meet-and-greet at 6:30 p.m. and a panel Q&A at 7:00 p.m. Voters will elect a mayor and two city council members this year. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Davis County, the event will be recorded and shared online. Voter information is available at davisvotes.com and vote.utah.gov.

Davis County Urges Residents to Prepare for Emergencies

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, Davis County officials are reminding residents to be ready for potential disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods, and severe storms.

Local agencies are promoting the importance of having a household emergency plan, staying informed through reliable alert systems like CodeRED, and preparing a 72-hour emergency kit. Recommended items include water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, hygiene supplies, and important documents. Kits should be tailored to individual needs, including pets and vulnerable family members.

Residents are also encouraged to build community connections and participate in preparedness training. With emergencies becoming more frequent and unpredictable, local leaders stress that readiness is essential for safety and recovery.

Mental Health Support Sees Spike After UVU Shooting

Utah's crisis lines have experienced a sharp rise in activity following the shooting death of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. The 988 Crisis Line saw a 22% increase in calls, while the SafeUT app also reported more usage as residents sought support for anxiety, fear, and grief.

In response, crisis services have boosted staffing to meet demand. The 988 line offers 24/7 access to trained counselors via call, text, or chat, and can connect individuals to local crisis teams or receiving centers.

Experts encourage small self-care actions like going for a walk or talking to loved ones and remind Utahns that help is always available. Walk-in crisis centers, including the new Kem and Carolyn Gardner facility in South Salt Lake, are open statewide.

UVU is also offering on-campus grief counseling. More information can be found at uvu.info.

🏈 Woods Cross Overcomes Penalty-Filled Battle to Hand Westlake First Loss

Woods Cross overcame a flurry of penalties and a mid-game momentum shift to defeat previously unbeaten Westlake 27-10. Key plays included a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Simmons, a fortunate kickoff recovery, and a strong ground game that controlled the clock in the final quarter.

🧸 Be the Light with Lily’s Birthday Stuffed Animal Drive

Last year, Lily celebrated her birthday by organizing a stuffed animal drive for Intermountain Health’s Cancer Center—collecting 140 stuffed animals to comfort kids whose parents are battling cancer. 💛

This year, she’s back with an even bigger goal: 200 stuffed animals by September 30th! Each donation, whether new or gently loved (small to medium-sized), helps bring hope and comfort to kids and teens during an unimaginably hard time.

There are lots of ways to get involved:

  • Drop donations off at Lily’s house

  • Order online and ship directly to her

  • Meet up for a hand-off

  • Or contribute funds so she can purchase animals on your behalf

As Lily shared, “Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see.” 🌟

👉 You can read Lily’s full post and DM her directly if you’d like to contribute: [Facebook Post Link]

🐾 Davis Shelter Needs Your Help

If you can’t make it to the shelter, DM Tera Marsh for a local drop-off option. Your donations make a big difference! 💛

💛 ProjectGiveBack – Sunday, Sept 28th @ 2:30 PM 💛

Join us at Pioneer Park as we serve our unsheltered brothers & sisters with food, clothing, prayer, and love.
We’re collecting: clothes, socks, backpacks, hygiene care, blankets & more. 🙌
